I've just joined and have read a lot of the posting and even posted some responses. As I sit here at 8:30 pm and it feels like 2 am. I have not had a doctor tell me that I have fibro but I have been doing alot of reading and surfing. My sister told me about 5 yrs. ago that she thought I had fibro. A good friend has fibro and she also feels I have fibro. My GP just keeps doing blood tests and the rheumatoid dr told me that I have tennis elbow in both elbows and carpal tunnel in both wrists. lol I do have hypothyroidism and I know that in itself makes you feel tired and causes some pain at times but I feel just like most of you have written. From the pain, numbness, foggy brain, tiredness, etc. I was always a hard worker and loved the outdoors. Now I have all I can do to do the normal stuff around the house let alone take care of my mother in law, who is in the last stage of dementia. I have 6 grandchildren and feel bad that I don't have the energy to spend time with them or can't run out side and play ball. Some times I feel so over whelmed that all I can do is cry. I am a very strong willed person and I have never let anything beat me. But at times I feel like curling up and letting the world pass me by, but even that hurts. lol I am looking for a new doctor right now and hope this one has a brain in his/her head. I can't go to my friend dr. he doesn't take my insurance and I've been out of work for 2 years (the place closed). It's great to have this forum where I can vent, get pointers and most of all know that there is a whole bunch of us out there.

Hi Megosun. I'm sorry you are having such a hard time! I hope you find a new doctor soon and can start to get proper treatment and diagnosis for your illness.

Welcome. Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Let us know how things go with finding a new doctor. I am very new to this site, was just diagnosed on Monday. Others will reply to you, for sure. :-)

Megosun, I'm so sorry for your pain. It is very frustrating when you are hurting
and tired and wishing you can find some relief. Hoping you can find a great
doctor. Research has shown that people with fibro typically see more than one
doctor before they get a diagnosis. I do understand, it was my 3rd rheumy who
got it all figured out.

You have alot on your plate right now...taking care of your MIL. Make sure you
ask for help when needed...care is needed for the caretaker too :) Take time
for youself each day to do something you enjoy. I find that relaxation helps rid
some of the stress. Hoping you feel better soon!

I've always considered myself to be strong but at times chronuc illness can
really knock you down, just know there will be bad days but there are alot of
good days too. Do what you can each day to help yourself feel good, it helps to
distract the pain. Exercise does help with stress.

Thanks for the response. I do try to do some me time every day. I have to or I've learned that I crash. I try to do some mild exercise each day also. Of course going up and down stairs 4 to 5 or some times more, to help my MIL tends to make my knees ache but it's better then sitting around and getting stiff. I've learned alot about fibro but now comes the harder part, finding a doctor that understands and I really don't like doctors. Thanks for the well wishes.

Hi Megosun!

I'm sure glad you found us and Welcome to the Family! I agree that you definitely need a new doctor. Please make sure to interview THEM! You are hiring someone to take care of your health and it's always seemed strange to me that a doctor would interview us and decide if we will become their patient or not. That's like taking your car to a mechanic and having the mechanic approve YOU before he works on your car. Strange???

Ask any and all questions you want. Ask their thoughts on fibro since you have other family members who have suffered with it. If things don't feel right then try another. Also, if you are anywhere near a university/teaching hospital give their doctors a try. There's a link in the Fibro 101 thread at the top of the page that will lead you to these facilities around the glove. It's well worth a drive to get good help.

Thanks Chutz. I will be asking questions of the doctors before I even step into their office. I have checked Fibro 101 and there is a lot of info there but I missed the one you spoke of will go back and check more. Thanks everyone again.

Hi, Megosun, and welcome!  You know, when I first developed fibro it really hit my elbows!  All of a sudden it was like I banged the "funny bone" and I had that extreme "electrical shock-type" pain going down into my hands.  This lasted for over two weeks, non-stop!  I couldn't eat, sleep, or think.  They thought I had carpal tunnel, too.  But I find if I wait long enough, things go away but something else crops up.  Also, quite a few fibromites have hypothyroid problems, too.  My doctor checks me periodically.  Sometimes I'm "normal" and other times the tests show hypothyroidism.  Go figure!  So, you are not a lone.

 

As other have said, make sure your next doctor treats fibromyalgia patients.  Ask them before you set up an appointment.  If they don't, you are wasting your time and will go round and round again.

 

I'm glad you found Fibro 101.  There is a ton of info in there and you will learn a lot.

Thanks. I am going to ask before I make an appointment, I'm not going to waste more time with a doctor that doesn't know how help. I will keep everyone posted on what happens. Thank you again everyone.
