     Hello, this is my second winter with Fibro. The colder it gets the more my muscles ache. I will never forget my first symptoms last Sept., I thought I was going crazy! It all started one night when I fainted. Just out of nowhere I fell over then 3 days later my body started to hurt. I went to see the doc cuz I fainted, but while I was there I let her know about this horrible pain I was having in between my shoulder blades and in the back of my neck. Doc told me it was the way I fell when I fainted. Just days later the nerve pain started, I had horrible pins and needles feeling in my face, muscle twitching (anywhere), stabbing and burning pain,I couldnt sleep, stiff and achy joints, achy muscles. I think one of the worst things is when your doc looks at you and tells you they dont know whats wrong.

     So she sent me to see a nero doc, thats when I got dx with Fibro. What seems to be throwing docs off, is all this nerve pain I'm having. I'm on a very high dose of gabapentin, it's helping alot but I still have nerve pain. I still have joint pain, my hips and legs seem to be my main problem now, Im taking meds to help me sleep, stiffness has gotten worse, I try to stay moving, doing something around the house. Im unable to work, thank God Im blessed with a good husband.

     At one time I was so active, I worked full time, I was a busy body, now I'm 38, feeling like Im 80. Some days I can hardly walk. Yes, Im also depressed alot of the times. Theres so many things I can no longer do. Im turning into a hermit in my house.

Hi Bikerchic73,

I am so glad that you have joined us. There is so much information here. Plus knowing that you aren't alone in this. I am sorry that you are in so much pain. You are smart to keep moving though. The more that you move around the more you are able to. Eventually you get so use to the pain that you barely notice it. Though it will most likely always be there. Learning to accept that is half the battle.

There is a thread called fibro101. It is the first thread on the forum. Look at it when you get time. There is a lot of helpful information there. Our wonderful Sherrine put that together and it is always there for you.

I hope that you feel better soon. I have found out that muscle relaxers do help with the shoulder and neck pain. As I hold all of my tension there and it seems to be my most painful area. But that is what works for me, everybody is different.

Hi bikerchick!!! The helmets used to kill my neck when we rode. about 12 years ago my pain started with the neck, shoulder pain and now it can turn up anywhere. I am glad the gaba is working for you but I am with Karen, the muscle relaxers help with a lot of the other pain.

You have found a great place to talk, vent and just get things off of your chest!!

Hi Bikerchick!!

And welcome to the Fibro Family! This is a wonderful place for support and friendship and as strange as it sounds, we have some fun too. My heart truly goes out to you...partly because of how you are suffering and especially that you are so young and are having to live with this.

Depression is very common with fibro folks. Most often doctors who treat fibro will put you on a l ow dose of an antidepressant to help relieve some of the pain. It's not enough to treat depression but for many people it can help with pain control. But it's nearly impossible to know what will work for some people and not others.

Please stick around and enjoy being part of this warm family. It's how we survive from day to day, by holding on to each other. (extending hand)

Hi, Bikerchick, and welcome!  My daughter has a Harley so I guess she is a bikerchick, too!  I'm so glad you found us and joined in.  We have a great group of members that love to help one another and, as a bonus, really do care about each other, too!  I think you will like it here.

 

I'm so sorry you are going through this but you can have a full and enjoyable life in spite of fibro.  You will get tips and suggestions to try and that will help you find what controls your pain.  You probably won't be pain-free but you probably can function and do what you want to do with your life.  Be sure to pace yourself.  That helps a lot.  Everything will get done but in a different time frame than before fibro.   

 

It is tough when your doctor doesn't know what is happening and also tough when they do know what is happening but can't do much about it.  We've all been through that.  I'm glad you did get your diagnosis, though.  It took some members several years to get a diagnosis!  You start to think you're crazy, but you aren't.  The pain is very real.

I see that our mod, Karen, directed you to Fibro 101.  It's the first thread on the forum and it is chocked full of good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there.  Perhaps even things that can help you out.  So take time to read it because I think you will be glad you did.

Be sure to keep moving with fibro.  If you sit or lay too much, you will be stiff as a board and you will have more pain.  There are some gentle stretching exercises in Fibro 101 that do help.  Also, find a gentle exercise that you will do daily.  I walk or swim as my exercise.  When I first started walking, I could only go four houses down and had to come back but I stuck with it and did a little more each day and now I usually can walk just fine.  I don't feel like heading out the door but I find that I feel better by the time I get home, I'm in a better frame of mind, and I have more energy so it's worth it!

I have pain in my hips and my doctor said it was bursitis.  Another member came on last week and said her doctor told her bursitis is common in people with arthritis and fibromyalgia so maybe that is what is going on with you.  I take ibuprofen and Tylenol to help with the pain of fibro and this helps my hips, too.  I also take vitamin D3 and malic acid/magnesium supplements and they both help me with pain and fatigue so this might be something to bounce off your doctor.  There are links in Fibro 101 about these vitamins and supplements and how they work in your body.  They don't work for everyone but it might be worth a shot.
