Some of you might remember me talking about Dylan, our Husky mix, who tore himself up in the backyard? Long story short, he's coming home from the vet hospital today after almost 6 weeks!! He'll have to wear a cone for a few days, but the bandage is finally off. We never visited because we didn't want to upset him more when we left
Normally, he and our other dog (Australian Cattle Dog mix) get along fine, but they do occasionally get into a nasty spat that lasts maybe half a minute. Especially with him having been gone so long, I can just see Jack pulling a territorial thing on him - and injuring him again. Dylan is 9, but has always moved like a much younger dog. But after all this inactivity, who knows?
Anyway, I'm trying to figure out what I'd do if they got into it...in the past, nothing has worked. My husband or son can pull them apart eventually, but usually I'm home alone. I've tried kicking and hitting with my reacher, and I'm the only one who feels it . (The 8-lb. Tomcat usually jumps on one of their backs, but they don't much notice him, either!)
My husband has this infuriating way of putting the blinders on. I want to talk to the vet for awhile this afternoon, he just wants to get Dylan and go. I need to know how he's been as far as eating, walking, etc. I also want to figure out a way to nip any conflicts in the bud - he just says, "I'm not going to go into worry mode with you," or, "let's cross that bridge if we come to it," which ISN'T helpful! I'm thinking BB gun (not really) or something that would really break it up.
Any ideas? Denise, I know you must have some!
