I wanted to let you know that AndeeLee is here.  Welcome!

Hi all. Three days ago I woke up with this scalp pain but I did not notice it till I brushed my hair. over the course of these three days it has gotten worse (It burns when not being touched, I cannot brush it at all, I have massaged it and that seems to help a bit). I have not had my hair up but I do have very long and thick hair. I never braid it at night. I have scoliosis, osteoarthritis of the spine, bursitis in both shoulders (Worse in right arm), issues with both knees for compensating the weight off my back and elsewhere. I have been told I have a mild fibro because the muscles in my shoulders is always very tense and sometimes hurts to be touched. I have taken a medication but it made me wake up at night and it felt like my hair was stabbing my face and neck like daggers and pins and needles. This has happened with almost all the fibro medications I have tried. So needless to say, I have to suffer with it. This scalp thing has happened many times in the past but never to this degree to where I sought out info on the net about it and thought about contacting a doctor. I do also have TMJ and just recently had a mouth guard made and hope maybe this will help keep this scalp thing at bay. I have read all your comments on this subject and really appreciate all of you taking the time to post your comments. It made me feel better to know others know what I am talking about and do not think I am crazy. I don't think anyone around me understand what I am talking about or how bad it really does and can hurt. No one can understand anothers pain unless they experience it themselves. Hi, AndeeLee, and welcome!  Have you tried massaging your scalp?  I do that and it really does help.  It gets the blood circulating and it feels better!  It's worth a try!

 

Be sure to check out Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum.  There are links to good information about fibro and you will learn a lot there.

Hi, AndeeLee, welcome. No, we sure don't think you're crazy! I don't know, maybe all of our brains and nervous systems are crazy...as good an explanation as any, I guess. Sure sounds to me like you're having some kind of nerve pain on your scalp. Have you been to a doctor specifically for this?

The first year I had FM, before a diagnosis, I had a week of intense

scalp pain. It felt like someone was yanking my hair out and burning

my scalp at the same time. The neurologist diag. it as occipital neuralgia.

After a week of pain meds it went away. Although it took another three

months for the tingling and itching to leave. I have to be very careful to

keep my neck and shoulder muscles relaxed. This was the first of many

strange symptoms that have come and gone over the last 3 years.

I, too, have had that scalp pain. I thought I was going crazy, so I have never told the doctor about it. Then I was diagnosed w/Fibro, and I realized that was probably the cause of my scalp pain.

What is so weird is that you can't even stand to run a brush through your hair. I'm sorry you are going through this now. Sherrine's idea of massage sounds like a good one.
