Sore Throat?

Hi Everyone,

Lately I've had this terrible feelng in my throat, and also in between my nose and throat.  It is a dry, uncomfortable feeling that gets worse at night.  It is only on one side. 

I had an allergy workup not to long ago, nothing that could explain this sypmtom came up then. 

Is anybody familar with this symptom?  Is is just another surprise from fibro?  If not, I need to see and ENT.

Hi, Free Spirit,

I get that dry, high up in the back of the throat feeling when I am about to get a sinus infection.

Hope that is not the case with you.

I get that when I'm getting a cold.  I don't think it's fibro-related.

Its not fair to blame everything on fibro. If you know your body and you know that something is a bit "different" about this ache/pain/symptom and the normal docs/meds arent working, then, yes, you should see an ENT.

Not to scare you or introduce another "illness" but I complained for many years about a swollen/sore throat and a constant earache and the pcp and allergist found nothing wrong. finally, after many years, and many different meds I decided to go to the ENT. He found nothing either but sent me for an mri anyway and that pointed out that I had a very large mass growing on my left thyroid. It needs to come out asap because it is so large and it is pushing on my windpipe ( that is what is causing the swollen throat feeling.)

I know my body and I know when I can expect a flare, or have some achy muscle issues due to stress/over activity.....so I knew that what I was experiencing was not due to "fibro".

hope that you are just experiencing the normal dry sinus issues that comes with having the heat on now that winter is here. I sleep better with a cool mist vaporizer in my room, so does my hubby who gets nose bleeds in the winter without the use of one.

I have had pain in my head and my face that is fibro for only a month or so, and it threw me off.  I have been in pain for so many years without any explaination, that it is still not easy for me to discern what could be fibro realated or not.  That is why I asked this question in the first place. 

Turns out I have a pretty bad sinus infection.  The doctor put me on a strong antibiotic.

Hi Free Spirit. I get a sore throat and it usually coinsides with what feel like swollen glands and pain in areas of my face.

The swollen glands consist of a gland that runs down almost the length of my neck and there are little pea sized hard lumps scattered around my neck. a few years ago I had one biopsied (the doc wasn't very nice either). This really scared me as my grandfather had lymphoma.

I think the lumps and swelling are fibro related as they come and go. I also get a sore feeling in my throat when this happens.

I am sorry if I came on a bit strong. I was not trying to make light of your condition. I just have concerns that people (doctors, loved ones, co-workers) always want to blame everything on "fibro" and that is not fair to you.
Even though you have lots of unexplained aches and pains you can still pick up on things that "just don't seem right". And you have, or you wouldn't have questioned the face/nose/throat ache.
I get lots of sore throat/face aches and this is the way I determine if it is something other than fibro. If it is strepp throat/sinus infection is will be accompanied with fever and chills. If it is allergy related it will come with itchy eyes and runny nose. If I feel like I am coming down with something I give it a few days. If it never gets any worse I blame it on the fibro.

Hey I get this everytime the weather changes. It for me is sinus infections. I actually just saw my GP and she referred me to ent next month for sinus surgery. It is a horrible feeling I know. It might not be a bad idea if it keeps up to see an ent because although its not dangerous to have sinus infections it is very annoying and sometimes painful on top of fibro. I can suggest two things that I do until you decide if you do want to see the ent. 1) there is a home made sinus rinse or douche that is half a teaspoon of salt to 8 oz of warm water. You can google the exact how of doing it. 2) take a washcloth and put a dab of vicks vapor rub in the bottom of shower and turn on the shower full heat, close the door and breath in the steam. The steam is great for loosining up the mucus in sinus cavities and helping it drain and with inflammation. Hope this helps and hope you feel better. =)

It is difficult to distinguish between what is caused by fibro and what isn't.  It's not like we only have a few symptoms!  shocked    But, when some new "symptom" comes up and doesn't go away or it is frightening you, please see a doctor to be sure.  I did that when I started with the wonderful heart palpatations.  I knew fibro could cause this but I wanted to be sure that it WAS fibro causing them in me.  (My husband died suddenly of a heart attack at an early age.)  So, I always check.  But, FreeSpirit, now you will know next time that feeling in your throat occurs!  The peace of mind...as well as better health...is really worth it.

 

Something else that is difficult to distinguish is people's meaning and emotions on the Internet.  We type meaning one thing and it can be taken the wrong way at the other end.  That has happened to me a lot.  Plus, we all are suffering from chronic pain so that adds into the picture.  So, always keep that in mind.  We are very blessed to have wonderful members on this forum and we are all trying to help one another the very best way we know how.  So, I hope no one has any hurt feelings because we really DO care about each other.  ~Sherrine going off humming "We Are Family"!  smilewinkgrin

Sincere apologies for jumping to conclusions. I fully understand that so much is lost on line. We cannot see each others faces, or hear their voices. In the future I will give the benefit of doubt, and ask "what do you mean?", if something does not sound right to me.

Dentia, thank you so much. I have gotten a lot out of your posts. Your generous sharing is a huge part of what gives me the motivation needed to continue a winter session at college this month, and manage to find time for my son and husband.

Sherrine is not wrong, we are a family in here!

All of you inspire me to not let the fibro take over my life. I feel honored to be among such a group of people. It takes a tremendous amount of strength to log on for the first time and ask for help.

Free spirit, I appreciate and thank you for your apology. It is very difficult to write exactly what you feel and sometimes it takes me a long time and much back spacing to get the wording just right (or maybe not :)
