surgery......when will it end

Friday I had surgery on my mouth. According to the oral surgeon I had a really bad infection that ate a hole into the bone of my jaw. So, he went in and cleaned out the infection and took a biopsy of the bone to make sure theres nothing going on other than a bad infection ( like cancer?). This whole mouth, tooth, infection thing has been going on three weeks now and I have had about enough.

I had one tooth pulled, two partial root canals and surgery to remove the infection during that three week period. And then, drum roll please, when it all finally heals up, thyroid surgery. I just wanna crawl into a hole and hide till next spring.

On the bright side, the fibro aches and pains are at a fair minimum. Could it be because I am on two antibiotics, tramadol, muscle relaxers and pain meds? sorry, just kidding. Unfortunately the aches and pains are still there, they're  just taking a back seat right now. Every once in a while they give me a little nudge to remind me of it.

hope everyone elses weekend went better than mine. And anyone living in this northeast cold - I feel ya!

Hi Denita, Im so sorry that you are dealing with so much right now. I will be praying for you that it is not cancer and that the thyroid surgery goes well.
I agree that fibro does kind of slip into the background when you have so many other things going on. Its kind of like if you sprain your ankle and then take a hammer and hit the other foot with it you are going to forget the pain in the sprained one for a little while. lol

I pray that you are feeling better soon and please keep us up to date on how you are doing.

its funny that you said that because my husband offered to stomp on my foot to take the pain from my mouth. haha (he was just kidding - no worries there)

How are you doing? I know you are having a tough time too.

Im still pretty weak but doing ok, still celebrating no more chemo, I start radiation in a couple weeks but its not supposed to make me as sick as the radiation. From the sounds of it Im doing better than you right now and I am so sorry about that. Feel better soon my friend.

Wish you didn't have to go through all that, Dentia. Mouth problems are really bad, I know first hand. Good luck on January 25th. It is freezing here in the northeast!

thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

I had my follow up this morning. Apparantly the infection is not gone. I have to go to another "mouth specialist" to have root canal therapy. What is that??!! The surgeon said that the infection will be tested against antibiotics to see which ones will kill it. It is going to take time, therapy, and several rounds of anitibiotics to get this cleared up which is going to interfere with my thyroid surgery. I am waiting now for the doctor to call to see what he wants to do - go ahead, or postpone??

I really hope that I do not have to wait because this feeling that someone has their hands wrapped around my throat and slowly choking the life from me is getting very stressful. If I stress out in any way it gets worse. Now the right side feels as bad as the left and makes me wonder if it has grown even larger since the last visit or that maybe the other side is now growing. Oh, what to do, what to do??

I have/had 4 doctor appts this week, had 4 doctor appts and surgery last week and had an E.R. visit and 2 dental visits the week before. I have missed a total of 8 days of work and looking towards having many more. Between the meds, the doctor visits and the missed work, I am now broke. And this all started with a sore throat and pulled tooth.

Hopefully next week I dont break a finger nail, no telling where that will lead.

On a bright note, we are expection several inches of snow. I love the snow. I can sit and watch it fall for hours. Of course I am indoors where it is nice and warm. :-)

I am so sorry to hear all that you are going through. How frustrating that the infection still isn't gone yet! Hopefully the root canal therapy will help. Seriously, the types of different therapies I learn about every day amazes me! Hopefully they will find the proper antibiotic and knock this out of your system so you can move on to getting rid of the thyroid problem. Seeing as though the Dr. has already wanted to postpone due to the infection he may want to continue to postpone until it's all cleared up. Perhaps they can do another scan to check on it though? Maybe knowing what's going on there will make you feel a little better about postponing it longer.

I know how frustrating it can be when one thing leads to another and to another and you can't stop the vicious cycle. Hang in there though! Hopefully the end will be in sight for you. And try your best to rest your body so that it can help fight the infection. Staying inside and watching the snow sounds like a wonderful and peaceful activitiy. Also, if you're a reader pick up some books to get lost in. Hopefully that will help take your mind off of some of what's going on. I recently got lost in a really good triology and that took my mind off things for about a week... I couldn't put them done so unfortunately my escape didn't last so long, but it was still a very nice and welcome distraction.

Wishing you a very speedy recovery from the infection and that you regain your strength to knock out the thyroid problem. And just to be safe, protect your finger nails :)
