Hello everyone,

I have another question(s), thanks so much for your responses. I am so glad I found this site. turn

I was diagnosed last year with fms. I have tender points on my legs, and stomach. Same area on each side. I have some on my upper body, but when I look at the tender points for fibro, I don't have them all. When I touch around my joints they hurt also, esp my elbows, they never swell or become red, is this normal for fibro?...pain around joints? I have this around my knees, shoulders and wrists. My rhuem. did lab work last year and said that I don't have any inflam. disease. Now that I notice all of the tender points are the same on each side..upper and lower body. If you touch any of my muscles esp legs they are tender all over, with extremely painful tender spots. Does anyone have all of a sudden stabbing or shooting pains in different areas? For instance, I can feel these firing off all over...pains...hand then foot then thumb..leg..foot...I mean like I have a ball bouncing inside..lol. I don't have this all the time, I think when I have flareups it's worse. I want to find a new rhuem., because the one I have doesn't really believe in fibro, he told me it would be ok and I could get through this. He tried to put me on lyrica. I don't want to start meds, except for pain meds. I try to watch what I do, hot baths..showers, and learn what pushes me and try to avoid this. Some people think Im nuts not doing meds, but Im sensitive to them and I don't like side effects.

Oh well thanks for your 2 cents..lol, I really appreciate it all.

I'm quite new and don't really have any words of wisdom. But, I do know that fibro is real and it hurts!

All I can say is welcome to the club, I get all you have discribered and more. I have no idea why but that is the way it is with Fibro also no two people suffer the same way.

If it is fibro and you don't have anything else going on, I think it doesn't pay to think it through too much (why here? why now?) It's just going to keep at you without rhyme or reason! Of course, then it's easy to attribute everything to it and overlook something serious. That makes it hard. Just part of the whole deal, I guess.

If you can get by without meds, that's great! I wish I could.

I'm new here to and the more I read the more I get it, everyone has different experiences and yet they are similar. Great that you are going to handle it without meds I read and reread the fibro 101 thread it has fantastic information.

Hi KL and Welcome!!

I truly think that you are way more wise than the rheumy you've been going to....and I know the Fibro Family here sure are since we experience it every day. IMHO, I feel your instincts are right on. If you don't want to start on meds, especially those who's reputation for side effects precedes them then don't take them. We forget sometimes that we are paying a doctor for their opinion and most often it's fine, but sometimes we just know our own bodies way better than any doc and don't care to pile on the pills.

about your pain...yes, your fibro is right in line with what the rest of us experience. We all are very different yet have basic things in common, which is how we are diagnosed with fibromyalgia. We don't have to have every one of the tender points and more often the pain moves around...ribs one day, shoulders another and a few days later the muscles in our feet are in pain! I even have pain that lights off on the top of my head...lol that's ridiculous but it's what I feel and others have the same thing.

I too have very tender leg muscles. Most often the muscle below the knees on the outside of my legs. One reason you feel like your joints hurt is because the muscles around your joints have pain(like you said) and the tendons that connect the muscles to the joint make it feel like it's the joint that has a problem when all along it's fibro pain in the muscles. No swelling because fibro isn't a disorder that causes swelling. Sometimes people get knots in the muscles which can be very painful too.

And another 'Yes'. I get the stabbing pains here and there like someone has a red hot knife and pokes it right on a nerve ending. I also get jerky muscles when I least expect it. Often when I've been on the computer working on drawing or photographs my arm, the mouse and my pictures will all go "ZING"....lol Thank heaven for the 'Undo' key in Photoshop. It's the pits when I'm cooking or eating a meal and my arm flings to the side. The grandkids think grandma is 'funny'. I laugh with them and that's the end of it. But inside it hurt to think my body is doing these rotten things to me and I don't have much control over it. Such is life~~

I've babbled enough but please keep posting and asking questions...it's how we all started out.
