Greetings Everyone. This is my 2nd post on these forums. My first was made in the Lupus section as I've been struggling with more than just Fibromyalgia and I'm awaiting a Rheumatology appt next week to go over the latest test results. In any case, I was dx with Fibromyalgia which my former Rheumatologist deemed "severe" back in November 2007. I've been on quite the roller coaster ride with much more downs than ups. After a rough pregnancy, my symptoms became drastically worse and the latest test results show I may have Lupus or R/A...or something else in addition to the Fibro. With five children and only 34yrs old - I feel like my life has been stolen from me! I am insistent on homeopathic/natural treatments as I've had far too many negative outcomes from medicine/antibiotics in my past and sadly, many treatments for the Fibro seem to be unhelpful (Vit D, PhotoTherapy, etc). I'm also awaiting disability benefits after a 2 1/2yr battle with Social Security over lost & missing medical files. Ugh - what a PITA!

If my name rings a bell anywhere, I am also member to medhelp.org's forums but getting answers to questions and having comments to my posts often take months so I sought out a new forum to hopefully connect with others struggling with the same/similar medical maladies. Anyway, hopefully eventually I'll be able to offer more help & support than to glean from it. ;) For now, I'm desperately seeking answers and support.

Hi Kenderyl, Welcome to the family! You'll find the members here very caring and understanding. We really care about eachother:)

I do understand the frustration of trying to get a diagnosis...all the bloodwork...tests and more tests. It took a very long time for mine.
Too many other conditions with simular symptons really makes it difficult. As a young mom, you really have a lot on your plate. I
hope you have a good support system going for you...five kids WOW, hopefully they are good helpers:) I'm a grandma who loves kids!

Glad that, you will be recieving your Social Security benefits after such a long battle. There are many here right now doing the same.

When it comes to meds, it's trial and error for many of us...what works for some doesn't work for others. Along with fibro, I'm one that has MCTD (lupus, sleroderma and RA) so going holistic isn't an option...I've been on immunosuppressants for that.

Many of us fibromites were found to be Vitamin D deficient, so there are quite a few of us that take that. Vitamin B-12 has been helpful to many too. Malic acid is common too. I've been on Savella for almost 2 years...one of the lucky ones who haven't suffered terrible side effects... it isn't a miracle drug for me, but it helps. Muscle relaxers help me when flaring.

I found that exercise, heat and doing relaxation...deep breathing and meditation helps with stress, and can bring pain levels down.
Taking it one day at a time focusing on the positives, doing what you can to distract pain really goes along way with living with chronic pain.

Welcome,

I understand the frustration of waiting thru the testing. Unfortunately it takes weeding out so many conditions to get an answer. I truly hope your SSD comes through.

Not sure if it's an option but I know someone who has a responsible teenager come in and help with her kids right after school for about two hours a day. She's helpful and pretty inexpensive. Not sure if an option or not, just thought I would share.

Welcome to our fibro family, I dont have any great advice for you today. I think it is going to be one heck of a fog day today. lol Just wanted to say hi and that hopefully the next time you post I will be a little more with it.

Hi Kenderyl and welcome to the forum!! If you were medhelp's fibro forum I know how you feel, it is pretty slow. That is how I found this wonderful site. I don't have any suggestions at this point just wanted to welcome you to the group!!

Hi and welcome! I enjoy this board as well. I was diagnosed with Fibro in nov. 2008. sorry to hear you may have something else with it too! I also am trying to go natural/holistic in my treatment. I take a whole food supplement, plus I just started taking malic acid/magnesium. I have heard many good things about it. I have yet to see any improvements but I heard it can take awhile.

I hope you fe el welcomed here! The others really do seem to care. :)

Hi, again, and welcome!  I did welcome you and respond to your other thread about natural ways of treating fibro so be sure to check that out.

 

You have found a good place here.  We have wonderful members that love to help one another and, as a bonus, really do care about each other, too.  I think you will like it here.  You will usually get quick responses, too.
