I am a young fibro sufferer, only 28. Still live at home, and when i have a flare up..my folks just don't get it. I miss work and they just say well its your job..which by the way i am covered thankfully under FMLA, so all i am really missing is money. So i hurt so bad some-days, and all i want to do is lay around, I don't want to move, i don't want to do anything at all! I hate that they don't get it. So looking for a community that will understand.Its just some days the pain is so bad all you want to do is just give up.

I want to say that you have came to the right place. People here understand and will give you a boost up.

Several just did that for me on another thread. We know the feelings you have with this junk. It sucks !!!! I have days that I feel better than others and then I do too much. Other days like you describe, I just want to lay in bed and let the world go by. There are  many others on here who can help more than I can. I'll let them talk.

Welcome to the fibromyalgia forum. I am so glad that you have joined us. Have you tried educating your parents to what fibromyalgia is all about? Maybe print out some information so that they can read it. I am so sorry that they don't understand.

What you have to do now is be proactive with this disorder. Try to find ways to help you cope better. You are still young and you can still live a pleasant life. Instead of feeling so down all the time. A lot of this illness is psychological. When you aren't feeling well, you hurt more. The more that you hurt the worse you feel emotionally. It is a viscous cycle. So start by maybe going for a small walk. It can only be five minutes. You will feel better. Each day increase it a little bit. Make sure that you start out slow even if you want to go more. If you do too much you will end up in a flare that could stop you from going anymore by making it a bad experience.

Are you taking any medications for your fibromyalgia? Are you seeing a doctor regularly?

Are you going to school or working? If so, how is that going? You can still lead a productive life in spite of the fibromyalgia. And attitude makes a huge difference. If you are up beat with your attitude, you can feel better all around.

There is a thread called "fibro101". It is the first thread on the forum. Take some time and read it. There is a wealth of information there. I think you will find it worth reading and you may even want your parents to read about some of the things on there. There is something called the spoon theory that might be helpful for them to read.

I hope that you feel better soon. Know that you now are among people who understand what you are going through and how you are feeling. Keep posting and know that we all care about you.

Fortunately for me, I have a very understanding and supportive family. I really feel for those that do not. This illness is bad enough on us physically, we don't need it to be worse emotionally. But, unless you are going thru it, how can you understand it?

I can remember back when I was much younger. My mother was rushed to the er with panic attacks, would be out of work for months, wouldn't drive, sometimes she never even got dressed. I used to think that she was weak, that she just didn't care, that she was lazy. It took me to walk in those shoes to understand. Now, I wish that I had been more understanding. I wish that I could apologize to her but it is too late. She passed away about 6 years ago. It was her death, a brand new position, a premature birth of a grandchild that I believe brought on my fibro.

So, I have now been on both sides of the fibro "fence" so to speak. I really wish that there was some magical way of letting people know that we suffer and that the suffering is real. sometimes a gentle reminder to them about how they felt when they had the flu, a tooth pulled, broke a bone.......sometimes it helps to put the aches and pains in an example of something they have lived thru. Sometimes people will just not get it. you cannot let that bother you. The best you can do is educate them and let it alone. If they want to help and understand, they will. If not....there isn't much more you can do other than just take care of yourself, stay as positive as you can, keep up with your doctor appts. your meds and keep moving. Always, no matter what, keep moving.

please, come here any time you need to vent, ask questions, or even offer some tidbits. we all care, we really do.

I hear you. My family isn't always the most supportive, but they're (for the most part) pretty good. I'd agree that moving is so important. Nothing major, just don't stay in one position, any position, too long. Walk a little, sit, stand, stretch. It really helps.

Hi jag, just wanted to welcome you to our fibro family where we really are treated like family. Im sorry that your family doesnt get it. I have a son that is the same way. He thinks I am just lazy. I set out to prove him wrong after I quit work in Oct. of 2009. I was doing really well going at my own pace and my house was starting to look really good. I had to take alot of breaks but each day I was a little stronger for it. Im not saying to try and do everything at once by no means. Just start out a little at a time.

I wish I could say that my house still looks really good but I cant. I found out I had cancer in July of last year and the chemo did a number on me that Im still trying to recover from, but I do try to do a little each day now that the chemo is over and hopefully soon I will be back to where I was.

Please feel free to ask questions any time, vent when you need too, or offer support when you can.

Thanks guys, i recently went and saw a Rumatoligist, and hes not actually convinced it is Fybro thats causing my pain, so lots of test for me..Fun Stuff sigh. I really do appreciate all the wise words of wisdom. It is helpful to find a site that you can just vent for a min or 2.
