frozen extremities??

I haven't been on for a while, but I always know help is at hand when I need it.   I read that another part of having fibro is something called "frozen extremities"  My right arm is locked up by the shoulder and the muscles are so sore I can't even lift it a little.  Typing this is not easy.

Some days the pain isn't so bad and yesterday and today has been terrible.  I have come to terms with having fibro and try to keep a very positive outlook which seems to make things a little easier.

My question is... Has anyone else ever experienced something like this or similiar?   Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

Hi American Woman, I have had adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder). I never knew it to be associated with fibro. Some think it is an autoimmune thing. I was given a cortisone injection and did physical therapy for 3 months to regain total use of my left arm. A physical therapist told me that it is not uncommon to get it in the opposite shoulder once you have had it. I haven't had it for 8 years.

Good luck to you...I would get a referal for PT.

Has your doctor recommended physical therapy for this?  If you do nothing it seems to me that this could be a long-term problem.  I know if I had muscles "freezing", I'd be moving them as much as possible, drinking plenty of fresh water, getting omega 3 to help with the joints and muscles and also trying glucosamine with chondroitin.  The glucosamine helps with joints and cartilage, if that's possibly what is going on.  (Be sure to talk to your doctor first.  This can be bought over the counter and I know it has helped several people I know.  I can't take it because I'm diabetic and it raised my blood sugar levels.)  I'd go to physical therapy to try to get some range of motion back, too.  I KNOW I wouldn't just be sent home with a diagnosis and no help.

I'm so sorry you are having this problem.  I hear of occasional shoulder freezes on this forum but not all the extremeties.  Let us know what you find out because we really do care about you.

Thanks for the help. It seems to start in my shoulder and then goes into my whole arm. I have an appt. for the 28th of this month and hopefully she will try PT. thanks again, I really do appreciate the help.
