How do you describe your pain?

Around 4 am as I was trying to fall back asleep despite horrible pain in my knee I was laying there thinking about the best way to describe that particular pain. I started thinking that I have a few ways I often describe my pain and I was curious to see how other people described theirs.

For the bone crushing pain I usually say it feels like my tender points are in a vice grip and someone just keep tightening it and tightening it and my bones are crushing as a result of the pressure.

Another one I use often is when it feels like someone is pressing hard somewhere one me, I describe this as someone taking the rounded end of a broomstick and grinding it into me.

Then I have the good old bug/jitterbug sensation throughout my body. It feels like an electrical current/tiny bugs dancing under my skin.

I usually can't relate just to the Drs forms that say - burning, aching, stabbing, pressure, etc. My description of my pain is usually a little more complex. Am I the only one? How do the rest of you describe your pain?

Frankey, I also describe my pain as bone crushing...more so when I'm flaring. Sometimes my extremities feel like they are under pressure, ready to explode. I do get the burning and achiness and sometimes the creepy- crawlers, electrical zaps and twitches...can't forget about the sensation of water dripping on the front of my calves, nor the constant feel of raining inside the left side of my head.

I'm still sane, so I must be doing OK :)

My pain can feel like someone beat me up. I just ache all over and get stiff in the joints. Very tender to touch. I am in constant pain most of the time. Seems especially at night.

I describe my pain as very achy, sharp, and throbby in most of my joints. My hips are the worst for all of the above sensations and they feel like my bones are grinding on one another, even though they're not . I do know that I have stage I osteoarthritis in my right hip but apparently it's quite minor in comparison to the pain I experience. There's also the fact that whenever it gets cold, I get chilled right to my bones, which goes to my joints, and so on. Then when I can't walk, it's depressing so that kind of stresses me out, than I guess the stress cycle comes into play, and whoa, there's more pain.

I'm also VERY fatigued when this happens, probably because I can't sleep properly when it does. My hands also become quite weak and throbby and my poor husband has to cut up all my meats when he feeds me, though I praise him for his support;)

Thankfully I've found a combination of medications that have helped SIGNIFICANTLY reduce my pain. I now also have more energy to get up and do stuff, and it feels like I'm slowly getting parts of my life back, which is great because I want to get pregnant:D

I have more of the burning muscular type aches and of course the fatigue. I tell people that it feels like "indian burn". Do you remember those? we used to give them in school. you grab someones wrist with both hands and squeeze at the same time that you are turning in two different directions. It really hurts, burns and lasts for quite awhile after its done. thats the way I feel most of the time - all over.

Many types of pain - constant chronic throbbing deep aching entire body except my head; extreme tenderness everywhere from my neck to my ankles (feels like I have been beat up with baseball bats and then run over by a tank); sharp ice-pick stabbing pain in my pelvis (thankfully this is irregular and not constant); intense burning all over but especially lower back/SI joint.

Still looking for a medication that will help alleviate some of the symptoms! :-)

Mine is varied. Sometimes it's the all over, flu-like pain with weak arms/legs/fatigue. When I knew something was really wrong was one time I had some towels next to me on the couch and I was trying to fold them. The muscles in my upper arms just BURNED. It was ridiculously painful. I should be able to fold a few towels! So I get that deep in the muscle burn, but sometimes my joints feel painfully cold and I get sharp stabbing type pains. It moves around too. Some days I have bad shoulder/neck pain, and other days it might be my hips/knees and/or feet. Sometimes skin feels like it's burning, sometimes like I've spilled something warm and wet on my leg. Just weird sensations.
