Has anyone got there Medicare early due to a life threating situation? It just seems like when people had a lawyer they got there Medicare before 2 yrs. I might be wrong.

You can take Medicare early but they reduce the benefits.  I got Medicare when I was 50 years old because my husband died and I was considered disabled.  I only get 71% of what I would have if I could have waited.

I dont even know how to start on Medicare. I just remember them telling my husband you have to wait 2 yrs. after receiving disability. Does someone usually get full disability insurance after 2 yrs? Maybe I will get on the phone. I

I know this is a little old, but I wanted to explain about Medicare. First, it depends on your age, like Sherrine said, but if your under Medicare age you get approved as soon as your disability goes through. I don't know about %'s, I'm on AHCCCS as well because I'm a single parent. As far as what you heard about life threatening illness, anybody who has a socially acceptable medical illness can get approved for Disability in 6 months, with a Dr.'s help, and then Medicare kicks in automatically. For the rest of us, getting a lawyer is to get approved within 2yrs of applying, because it can take up to 7-8yrs depending on your condition and medical treatments/options or if its a mental health issue. Mine is, apparently even though its really hard to get approved for disability because of mental illness its easier than with Fibromyalgia or neurological issues, EBV/CFS or Gluten/Dairy Allergies.
