The lesser of two evils

I am in an interesting position at the moment. ....

My Rheumy has put me on steroids to try to reduce the inflammation to my CNS and to reduce the amount of pain I am in..(from multiple connective tissue disorder) how every the side effect is that it has increased my seizure activity by like a factor of 10...I had 2 grand mal seizures in as many days after I started the Prednisone..and so many absent and partial seizures I can't even count them..but according to my husband he said that this past Sat he saw at least 20.

I went to the neuro...he said that the increase in seizures is in fact from the steroids...but that the steroids are the priority at the moment...but that we are increasing the anti seizure medication to try to counteract the prednisone...

So my joints feel a bit better, my energy level is up, I am moving around more easily...but I am having seizures almost constantly..so much that I can't walk down the street by myself...I have to have someone in the room with me while I shower, and I need to have a cell phone on my person at all times.

So I ask...which is the lesser of the two evils...the pain and swelling..or the seizures and disorientation? I am considering at my next visit to asked to be removed from the steroids...

Oh, my goodness!  All those seizures?  I think I would ask about that medication that Robin mentioned.  She's been there and done that.  I know I hate Prednisone.  I had to take it for Crohn's and also my auto immune inner ear disease and it caused more problems than it solved.  But  you should touch base with your doctor and mention this medication and see what they have to say.

 

I'm so sorry you are having all these issues.  It sounds like you are handling it with grace...just like Robin does.  You two are an inspiration to me.

I suffer from seizures, but not like you. When I had my grandmal seizure I was in front of an ER Dr. I was so glad, because if I was alone I could of died
From it. If I was having that many I don't think I would be taking that drug. You could fall and hit your head and go unconscience. I have had that happen and then my brain swelled. I was glad that someone witness the fall. You know yourself, so you will have to decide with your Dr.
