Okay, so this Fibro fog is not going away. In fact my concentration is getting much worse and I am messing things up at work. Has anyone ever thought to take or are taking something for concentration.

Izzy, I do brain games...things like crossword puzzles, play bridge, etc.  The best thing I do for fibro fog is using a good sense of humor.  The more I stress over it, the worse it is.  If I laugh at it, it's better.

I'm sorry to hear that but I really do find that if I just relax about it, I don't have nearly the problem.  If I get all tense and worried, it's like I have Alzheimer's.

 

Oh, there is a wonderful book called the Memory Book by Harry Lorayne and Jerry Lucas.  It gives good tips to help you remember things.

Yes, but this really isn't memory...it's as if I am daydreaming all the time. Conversations over 5 min long are too much, I'm unable to focus long enough to carry out simple tasks. When it is brought to my attention I can see the memory part of it because I don't remember doing it. I don't remember conversations because I zoned out. It's all very frustrating. shakehead

Perhaps medications are contributing to this.  You might want to ask your doctor about that.

Some of us take adderall for fatigue. It helps me focus and does not give me a bad jittery feeling. Also they prescribe Provigil, but I couldn't afford it

it got better with awareness. Also, I purposely try to take mental breaks. I will do one task for a little, and then move to another one for a while. it helps that I can effectively do that with my job.

So sorry you are having such a bad time with the fog.  I know, it can really be embarrassing, like when I sent out directions and told everyone the buidling was to the right, when it was to the left.  The security guard (who had to redirect everyone) thought I was an idiot. blush

I find that carrying a pad and pen with me where ever I go helps.  I write as people talk so that way I have it down what I am supposed to remember.

And I find for me, stress is a huge trigger for all my fibro symptoms including fibro fog.  so a break during the day with some meditation can help.

I'm also sorry you are having a hard time. No one understands

unless they have been there and I know just what you are talking

about.

I have a friend who was just diagnosed with fibro and finally she

understood what I have been going through. She had been thinking

more and more about retiring and when the fog started interferring

with her work she knew it was time.  She was fortunate that financially

she could quit, but she loved her work and would never have given

it up, but knew it was time.

I also think humor is wonderful. We only purchased a tv when all the

children had graduated high school and I'm only now discovering

"The Golden Girls" and "Frazier"--what a hoot!

I don't have any words of wisdom, just know you are in my thoughts

I'm sorry you are having a hard time, I definitely feel your pain.

A new sleep doctor I am seeing said that he wants to try adhd medication. I'm excited to see it if works. It might be an option for you too.

It can be so frustrating to have these problems, I know I have been to the point of thinking I have Alzheimers & back.  lol! 

A recent study, last month, in the US has shown that the brain needs Zinc, prior to this they knew it used the zinc but not how.  They now know it is used by the neurons to attach to other neurons, neuron to neuron.  I have been taking it, 50 mg's, for about a month & see a change in my memory, I seem sharper & more alert to things around me.  I, also, use B12 sublingual 2500mcg, which helps in memory as well.  I am hoping this combo is going to keep helping me & I hope this info helps you.  Hugs, Denise

I have a bad case of fibro fog at times. I finally started doing what Sherri says. I am doing puzzles, reading and trying to see if I remembered the paragraph I just read. Challenging my brain some. I am doing kids memory games on my I pad. It has got some better. I would be in a conversation with a few ladies and just zone out. It would frustrate me, but now I really do work at it. I could understand how you would be worried about work. I don't think I could go back to my nursing. My Dr's thinks the fibro fog is caused by the lack of right sleep. Not sure if that is the whole reason. I do know the less stress has made a big difference in my thinking.

Thank you ALL for sharing, I do think I'm getting Alzheimers... smilewinkgrin But I'm only 34 so I know it can't be that...hope not...Anyway I am doing Scrabble on my phone, I have about five games going at a time. I will also be honest with my doctor and she what she thinks. Lots of Love, today is a better day. :-)
