Almost medfree, may I ask how you got the diagnosis for multiple chemical sensitivities? I am allergic to almost everything, especially candles, perfume, strong odors, cigarette smoke...everything in our house is dye and fragrance free. I mean, *I* know I can't be around those, but when mention it to other people, they just look at me like I'm weird.
I had asthma as a child but after we moved from hot and humid climate to a dryer, less humid one, it got better; however, it came back with a vengeance when I was around 35 years old My asthma went untreated for years in the early 1990s and I coughed to the point of throwing up. I even worked around doctors and they never questioned my constant coughing from being around "smells."
It wasn't until I went to an allergist (this was in the early 1990s) that he finally did the allergy tests and determined how bad my allergies were. I took shots for several years and they worked (along with finally being treated for asthma).
In 1993 I moved to another state, got sick and had bronchitis for six weeks. I didn't know anyone here, didn't know any doctors, so I asked my boss for a name and went to that allergy doctor. He downplayed how sick I was. He finally, after about
five weeks, gave me adequate medicine and I took a week off from work (I had only worked there about
two months, so that didn't make me any friends) and got well. It seems that nowadays, allergy doctors don't want to do the skin prick testing like they used to, so I haven't been an allergist since the first bronchitis experience. I have been treated by my regular doctor for bronchitis a lot of times since then. I do have inhalers and an nebulizer for the asthma, but I still have problems with smells.
So, I know I'm rambling...who diagnoses MCS?
Thanks!
