Hello all,
Today, I was diagnosed with fibro and given a 2 wk titration pk of Savella. I failed to inform the Dr that I also take Lexapro 20mg a day for depression. I was reading today for drug interactions. It appears that it is a dangerous combination. ie Savella and Lexapro. Any comments or experience with this ? Also, I have been taking Lexapro for nearly 20 years for mild or moderate depression. If I have to discontinue Lexapro, can you recommend something comparable to Lexapro that would not have a dangerous interaction with Savella. I could kick myself that I failed to list Lexapro. When I wrote the list of meds at home, the bottle of Lexapro wasnt in the pill box so I forgot it. Duh !!!!!

Call your pharmacist, and your doctor. They will be able to advise you. Side effects are not a given, but a possibility based upon other factors.

Yes, call your pharmacist right away. Welcome to the forum. I am glad that you joined us. Drug interactions can be rather scarey. I am glad that you remembered it before you took it. I would defo call the doc and explain it to them. Somebody will reassure you whether or not to take the med.

When you get a chance, there is an awesome thread that you may want to read, it is the second thread on the fibro forum called "fibro 101". I think you will find it very helpful. Do keep posting and know that we all care here about you.

Yesterday, when I was diagnosed, I have to say that I was happy. Happy, because someone finally figured out what was going on !!!  A simple test and an answer. Strange with all the test and tools physicians have available to them ,an "old-school" method diagnoses fibro !!  I checked the long list of possible fibro symtoms on this forum, and was shocked to see how many of them applied to me. I can see how there would be "nay-sayers" concerning fibro because you cant run a test and touch a result. I myself had just recently heard that fibro was just a catch all dx -- when in doubt -name it fibro.

I am now on a quest to find the right med for me -- only day 2 of Savella -- so alot of days ahead me at this point.

Hi, Dibs, and welcome!  You have gotten great advice from the members.  Do check with your doctor or pharmacist first.  The pharmacist has studied these medications and is like the "expert" in them.  I even pass herbs by my pharmacist before taking them.  You can have interactions with something as simple as that.

 

I see that Karen directed  you to Fibro 101...the second thread on the forum.  There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there.  You already have read the symptoms but another good link is called A Thorough Explanation of Fibromyalgia.  Also, there is a link called Doctors Respond To New York Times Article.  This will prove, without a shadow of doubt, that fibromyalgia is real.  It's not a catch-all illness.  It's recognized by the American Medical Association, the American College of Rheumatology, the National Institutes of Health, and the World Health Organization...just to name a few.  So don't tolerate those stupid comments.
