Went to the doctor today....

and she's gone. Apparently she moved her practice to another town, and no one bothered to notify me. I planned my entire day around this appointment, which I have had scheduled for about 3 months.

Ugghh. So now, I have to either go out of town to see her (which will take another 3 months for a new appt.) or find a new doctor. Not a tragedy, just annoying.

On the bright side, I didn't have to see the doctor today. rolleyes turn

I truly understand your frustration. They should of let you know these things. Especially when you waited three months for the appointment. So vent away. It is rude and inconsiderate of them.

I hope you find a doc soon.

When my Pdoc retired Dec. 31st, they sent all of his patients a letter, letting us know that his partner was taking over the practice. He strongly encouraged us to stick with her because of all of our records, and because some of us actually had to see her if he wasn't available.

She's not too bad, but she's not HIM. LOL! It's going to take a while for me to get used to a new doc because i've been seeing him since I was 14 and i'm 39 now....

Anyway, I agree, they should have informed you, in one way or another, whether a letter or a phone call, to let you know that the office is in a new location. That's VERY unprofessional! They should have "squeezed you in" for an appointment sooner because no one let you know the change of location. It wasn't your fault!

I'm sure this is very upsetting... I know I have a bond with my rheumy and I'd be upset if he up and left without warning.

So sorry, you are put in this position...hoping you do find a great doc soon.

My dad's doctor used to work only certain days of the week. We were forced to make an appointment for three months out when we left the office. Well, he changed his days off, so one afternoon my husband took my dad to the doctor and he wasn't working that day! No one called us and told us. THEN they had the gall to call and ask why he hadn't seen the doctor in a while. I told them if they had bothered to let us know about the change in days off, he would have been seen.

I just had that happen with the medical supply business I have used for 14 years.  They went out of business...and they had my prescriptions for supplies!  Never called either.

 

I would call the doctor and be a little squeeky wheel.  They should have notified their patients.  My doctors all call several days ahead to remind you of your appointment and that should have been done, along with telling you they relocated.  Most doctors keep a few appointment spaces open in each day for emergencies.  They need to give you one, since you have been waiting for months and was never notified of their relocation.  I bet you can get in and get this appointment over with.  I sure hope so.  You were not treated fairly.  You waited your turn and are now at the back of the line again.

What I am worried about is your meds. Most of our med refills are based off these 3 or 6 month appointments. Are yours going to be ok till the new appointment? Getting refills without seeing the doctor first, no matter whose fault, can be quite difficult and very aggrevating. I hope this is not an issue you will have to deal with.

Thanks for the commiseration. I was able to get an appt. in early February after I explained my situation; however I am contemplating trying to find someone else because I think it was so unprofessional of her to not notify me.

Mscrowbar, my internist handles all of my meds, so I do have that covered, but thanks for the concern.

This really was more of an annoyance than anything else, but dang, I planned my whole day around that appt., had myself all mentally psyched up for it, and now I have to either drive out of town or find someone new. Not to mention I now question her professionalism. Oh well, if that was the worst thing that happened to me yesterday (and it was) I'll be thankful, let it go, and move on.

Austen, it's generally not your doctor's job to notify the patients...it's the office manager's job to see that this is done.  Your doctor may have no idea that this wasn't done so be sure to let them know.  You can have a wonderful doctor with a lousy staff.  As they say, don't throw out the baby with the bath water.

That's true Sherrine, but when I went to the old office (which still has other doctors) for my appt., the staff there told me that she took care of notifying her own patients. Of course, they definitely could have meant that her new staff took care of it. And I suppose I could be really generous and entertain the possibility that my notification got lost in the mail.

You are right, though, and have given me food for thought. It doesn't necessarily mean that SHE didn't notify me. I still don't want to have to drive out of town though. rolleyes
