Welcome to the family, Alice!
I'm one of those ppl that have had Fibro since I was a baby. BUT I wasn't dx w/ Fibro till about 6 yrs ago. I'm 58 yrs old. I remember telling so many drs that this or that was causing me a problem, and they would basically just blow me off. 'Everyone has pain, everyone has a bad day' blah, blah, blah!
A chance remark made me look up Fibro at the library. After reading @ least 15 books, I felt sure that this is what was causing my pains, etc. My pcp, at the time, felt that FMS wasn't my problem. She felt I was just depressed and I needed to basically, snap out of it!! I was finally able to get her to give me a referral to a rheumatologist (at that time I NEEDED her to write up a referral). Well, surprise, surprise, I was dx w/ Fibro. My pcp wasn't happy, she really thought the rheumy would say it was ALL in my head.
Age has nothing to do w/ having Fibro. If your dr isn't listening to you, or assumes it can't be Fibro b/c of your age, change drs. He isn't as smart as he thinks he is. You need someone who is listening to you.
For yrs I thought what I lived w/ was what everyone lived with. I was amazed when I found out that sooo many ppl live w/ this every single day. I wasn't alone, and neither are you.
BTW, I love your name! :)
God bless. Alice.
