Hi
......and I'm glad you posted your thoughts and feelings on depression. It's one of the hardest topics to discuss, next to sexual issues, that many fibromites live with. I've been on antidepressants for quite a few years, I hate to say, but without them is.....shall we say, it's not a pretty sight. ;-)
I can imagine that being a guy with fibro has some very unique issues being that you feel like you are/should be the bread winner, the strong man of the house, someone your children can look up to....and with fibro interfering with your life it's hard to do that.
Do you take medications for depression? I'm going to assume you do. If not please discuss it with him/her. If you do it sounds like the medication is not as effective as it should be. One thing I learned from my doc is that most often antidepressants are effective for 2-3 years and then loose their effectiveness. All you need to do at that point is to switch to something similar and it can make such a huge difference.
Also, how about
asking your doctor for something to fight off the sleepiness that hangs over your head. That was becoming a problem for me so much that I was beginning to get fearful of driving. One day I even nodded off at a red light.
It took a while to get my medications balanced since I'm also on 2 types of insulin and a couple of other meds. But most days the balance works pretty well. And if it seems to be loosing it's effectiveness I've learned to speak up. For the most part I have my life back.
And one last thing... I love the fact that you want and need to be held and felt loved...and you're a GUY! More men need to express their feelings, IMHO.
Warm hugs,
Chutz
