oxy side affects

Has anyone else had IBS type symtoms from taking oxycotin?  I've had painful bloating & nausea for 2yrs. now & they say it is like ibs, but I'm 67yrs. old.  Also has Miralax  caused or agravated these symptoms?  Is this just part of Fibro, or is it associated with the meds mentioned above.  It has my life on hold & I'm very miserable & depressed with this stuff.  I'm awaiting a test for gall bladder function, but egd was fine.  Thanks for info.  I'm considering seeing pain doc to change from oxy to opana to see if it helps gastro symptoms, so any info, ammo,lol, will help.  Thanks Azgram sad

Hi, Azgram. It seems to me that it could be any of these things or a combination. What doctors have you seen? I'm wondering who is saying it sounds like IBS. As I understand it, IBS is kind of an umbrella term for chronic general stomach discomfort (pain, bloating, gas, nausea, diarrhea and /or constipation, pretty much you name it, without any particular cause they can pinpoint.) I've been told I have it by my GP and a gastroenterologist.

I sure hope Miralax doesn't cause problems, because I have depended on it every day for a couple of years now. (I know it's really antifreeze, but when ya gott go, ya gotta go!)

I was having problems a few years back, and a function test showed that my gallbladder wasn't working at all. So out it came. Hope you can get some answers and some help. Stomach pain is definitely no fun.

Most Dr's will tell you that you probably have a narcotic bowel syndrom. Most narcotics do cause depression in people. This was a reason why I had to changed my narcotics to something different. The oxy and Percocet caused havoc on my bowels. Once they change them, it made a huge difference for me. There are many other drugs out there to help fibo. Hopefully you will find that right combination. Good luck

Thanks for the replies.  I've never heard of narco bowel syndrome, but makes sense.  I'm getting aproved for a gall bladder function test, but in the meantime I haven't used Miralax in about a week & the bloating is almost gone!  I'm using milk of magnasia tablets instead & 3 or4 of them work for me.  I'm going to ask about the narco bowel syndrome.  Much thanks. One more thing about oxy, have any of you noticed feeling strange emotionally from oxy or having unusually hopeless thinking?  I'm on lexapro for depression, but just recently has the oxy upped for pain within the last 6 mos.& all I read about is what happens after death, I'm 67, & I feel detached & hopeless.  I'm going to book an appt. with a psychologist as soon as all the dr. appts slow down.  Just wondered if any of noticed that narco like oxy affected you like this.  Thanks, Asgram confused

Well narcotics can make you constipated and all that goes along with that (bloating etc.) However, IBS is very common in people w/Fibro.
Luckily IBS is a functional disorder and no damage is being done to your colon etc. It's basically just how it works or spasms (hence used to be called spastic colon)
I was diagnosed with IBS almost 30 yrs ago. Started with constipation, then about 12 yrs ago went the other way. (way worse) Thankfully the narcotics that made everyone constipated just made me 'normal'. I've never heard of "norco bowel syndrome" Are you all meaning just the common side effect of narcotics?

"Gut" problems are common because our brain/gut nerves are connected. Our nerves are misfiring or "going haywire" as my GI explained to me.
Another wonderful side effect of Fibro. Hopefully they can give you something for the IBS to help you get through what is hopefully a flare.
