Hi all, I was diagnosed with Fibro many years ago. I have recently moved to northern Maine and discovered that doctors here don't believe in fibro so it makes things interesting. I also have serious back problems which i'll whine about in the chronic pain forum lol. I'm hoping to be able to help some of the newbies to fibro, as the disease can be very confusing (fibro fog is so much fun lol) and it helps me to help others.

I met you on the depression forum, I moderate over there too. I am so glad that you have joined us here. There is a great thread you will probably want to read. It is called Fibro 101. It is the second thread on the forum. It stays there because it is a sticky thread. So when you get a chance, take a look at it.

I am sorry that the doctors are confusing you. That really gets to me. I had one tell me I didn't fit the plan for fibromyalgia and that I couldn't possibly have it. Needless to say, I didn't go to him for very long. I have had fibro since about 2001.

I hope that you are having a painfree day. Or as close to it as you can get. Take care, keep posting. I think you will like it here.

Hi again Karen!

I had already started reading the links in the Fibro 101 post. I was actually diagnosed years ago. Long after my diagnosis, I had to move to the area where I now live. It's the doctors here who don't believe in Fibro. So I'm getting no treatment for that now. Because of my situation right now (waiting on disability) I'm stuck with the doc I have. Oh joy.

Actually today is going ok so far, thanks :)

One day at a time is all that we can do anymore. Take life as it comes. I am glad you have been reading fibro 101. It is a wonderful thread. I knew you would like it.

Welcome! I hope you like it here on the forum. Boy, I really feel for you, being in a place where doctors don't believe in fibro. Guess you'll just have to educate them! smilewinkgrin

Hi, Kaely, and welcome!  Is there a teaching hospital near you?  You would find great doctors there.  In Fibro 101 there is a topic called Finding a Fibro Doctor (Topic #12).  I clicked on Maine and there are three doctors listed.  Hopefully one is near you.  If not, ask if they treat fibro patients before ever making an appointment with another doctor.  A rheumatologist would be good....but still ask.

@ Sherrine Thank you for the welcome! the nearest doctor is an hour and a half drive from here. My financial situation (or the lack thereof) makes it impossible to get there regularly or to pay the doctor if i could. Right now, due to back problems, I couldn't drive there. I can't sit for very long because of my sciatica. So for now I'm just dealing with it as best i can.

@ Debbie thank you for the welcome! I'm not sure I have the patience to educate them. I'm hoping I can move away from here soon. I'd forgotten how backwards it all is up here.
