Eyeglasses and face/ear pain

So I got new glasses in February.  It took three exchanges of frames and four adjustments to get to the point where I THOUGHT I could wear them without getting ear and facial pain.  I wore them for fifteen minutes a month ago and developed such a pain in the mastoid bones behind my ear I had to take them off...have not worn them since.  I went in again today and asked if they couldn't do something to relieve the discomfort...have tried 'pads' on the bow and nose piece. I order that new light weight plastic in the lenses and wire frames.  Nothing works!  My face and ears are soooo sensitive...I can't even pluck my eyebrows anymore without getting a serious headache.  My old galsses are 7 years old and getting pretty beat up....I NEED new glass...trifocals to boot.

Anyone else have problems with pain and their glasses?  My old glasses are plastic frames...you would think they would bother me more than the fifteen pairs I've tried on recently.  Don't know what's going on here, but facial pain has always plagued me since dx'd with fibro....along with scalp and head pain.  Can't even use a barrett or head band to keep the hair out of my face.

I do get that sometimes... Especially when my glasses are new, when I have sinus pain, or I am in a really cold environment.

However, I mostly wear contacts. This helps. Maybe light wire frames?

Oh yeah, I have that problem w/ glasses, too. I destroyed my glasses in January and had to go for a new pr the next day. I had to wait for a wk to get the new pr and when the man went to adjust them he bent the arms tooo much where it goes around the ear. The pain was terrible! He was so sure it was the right fit. I puledl them off and had to have him re do them. He was taught this is the way ppl wear them. UNLESS you are a Fibromite, I guess.

I used to get the worst headaches yrs ago. I was told they were not migraines by my old pcp. Yet, they were incredible and any one I know who has migraines describes them the same way. I was at work when my head felt like it was swellling and pushing the arms out from my head. I had to remove my glasses and stop working - couldn't see the print. My head would pound, I would get nauseous and dizzy. I had to lay down. I still had to drive myself home. I took Advil and Pepsi and it did help somewhat. The med the dr gave me never helped.

I can't wear 'things' in my hair, the pain is terrible. I try to wear a hat when I'm in the sun, it feels like my head is swelling w/ that, too. My face is so sensitive, can't stand to have anyone touch it. I've been having dental work done, and I have been getting a stabbing pain just under my chin on the left side - always my left side for things to go wrong.

This has gone on since I was a child, I've always had this stupid Fibro. No bows, no headbands, no clips, no nuttin'.

Donna, I also wear the lightweight lenses...they are comfy for only so long. As the day wears on I need to take them off for awhile. I have several pair and they are all differant...they fit fine, I'm just super sensitive. One pair are titanium frames and the other two pair are plastic. It takes me a very long time to pick out frames that are comfy...never could wear contacts, too many allergies.

When I wore my hair long, I got headaches from my super thick mane...can't stand to wear hats either.

Some people are just super sensitive. Out of six kids, I was the lucky one :)

Thank you for your advice, my fellow fibromites!  The new glasses, according to the optician, are the lightest weight they sell.  They also have spring action bows.  I guess my face and head have just gotten more sensitive and I might have to try to wear them ten minutes at a time for a couple of weeks to see if I can overcome the discomfort.

I was wearing a hoodie the other day and pulled the hood around my neck to block the wind...when I got home the entire bottom of my head ached from where the hood of the stupid sweatshirt rubbed against my scalp.  I guess we just have to realize we are fibromites and buying clothes, shoes and accessories are always going to be a challenge.

Where is a nice Fibro R US store when you need it!

I have not been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I also have pain behind my ear from my wire eyeglasses. If the glasses are adjusted too loose then the glasses fall down. How long does it take to get used to the glasses so there is no pain and it is not too loose so the glasses fall down? Does anyone have any more suggestions? Is there a padding or an earpiece that can go on the eyeglasses to prevent pain? My glasses get crooked a lot.

I had to chuckle, because I've been shopping at every store I come to this week to try to find comfortable reading glasses. And going through everything you all have mentioned....I like the way the plastic ones feel better, but even then I can only wear them so long before I take a break.

I have about 5 pairs in a box, and I keep thinking I'll try to fix them with one of those little repair kits...I'll put one on, and they're wildly crooked and falling off my face - talk about dizzy ;( I'm told I still have 20/20 vision, but I have to have these glasses on a chain around my neck because I need them every time I turn around to see something clearly.

A whole store just for us ~ ~ eaw, wouldn't it be loveally?! Lots of light, soft, warm materials, and yes ~ lots of chocolate! ;)

Hi, Stacey, and welcome! Google “foam for glasses” and you will see all sorts of options for the arms of the glasses. Then google “foam for glasses nosepiece” and you will see options there also. Hope this helps your friend.
