Sensitivity to Side Effects of Medication

Every time I try something new I am always affected by the so called side effects of the medication. Sometimes that is worse than the symptoms I am trying to relieve. I recently started on Fluoxetine for depression.. well a few days ago I had the worst headache of my life, and I read somewhere thats one of the side effects of this medication. I don't know if that's the actual cause of it but I am just thinking.. you know what I'd rather be depressed than suffer a headache like that again.. its still here and has been all week. No medication seems to get rid of it.. tried Solpadine plus because my mother has similar problems and she sings the praises of this, but it didn't work at all. It just makes me feel nauseus .. what's going on and why doesn't anything really work? They even gave me morphine in the hospital which didn't work at all .. and I am supposed to believe its just a tension headache?

I have noticed on this forum that many of us have numerous chemical sensitivities. I have developed over the years a rather extensive list. The latest category that the doctors have added are the 'anti-depressant' meds. I have had reactions to ALL of the ones that they have tried in past. (at least 10). The last was Cymbalta....and my reaction was so severe that they doctor finally listened when I told him these drugs were not good for me. Benzodiazapines are another class of drugs on my list of no-no's. I used to get those headaches, and severe chest palpitations,etc.
Pretty bad when those medications are for anxiety, etc.

I am using SAMe for depression now. It is over the counter...and when I started taking it....it was for joint and muscle relief. I found that an extra benefit was that it really does help my mood. It is a supplement and not a drug...even my doctor is impressed.

Please tell your doctor....and ask your pharmacist about headaches on that med. They seem to know more about side effects that the doctors do.

Prozac and other drugs in that class have a side effect of headaches.  I personally will never take another antidepressant again to deal with fibro pain.  The side effects are worse than the disease, at least for me.  However I know others have gotten relief so I guess it's like everything else...some can tolerate it and some can't!

Shirley I use to have horrible problems finding the right antidepressent, but I finally found one that works very well. It's called remron and it also helps you sleep. It's and old one and cheap. It comes in a pill form or melty tablet. I think the med works faster for bed in the melty form. It has something in it for racing thoughts also. I use to have trouble shutting my mind off at night. Hopefully you can find one soon without all the side effects.

I'm also sensitive to meds....if it's listed as a possible side effect, I am almost guaranteed to get them. My main sensitivity is with pain meds. I have so many reactions to them, that it's almost impossible for me to find something that doesn't either make me break out in hives, cause migraines, make me vomit or pass out (they lower my bp severely). So you are not alone with these sensitivities.

I will usually have at least one of the side effects listed. I am sensitive to meds. It first was noticed when my dd was born in 1986. I was given morphine and had trouble breathing. If it says could make sleepy, i will be asleep for several hrs. even tylenol. I took clarinex, had 2 seizures. You guessed it, seizures listed as possible side effect on box. If I want a great night's sleep, i take a dramamine before bed. I was told by a dr that this is something that is common with fibro pts.
