Pre-existing conditions

My husband was injured on the job 2 years ago, just as my fibro was diagnosed. My husband is still in the middle of a pending workers comp case. During this time, we were forced to drop insurance thru his company because we could no longer afford the premium. We then were eligible for Medicaid due to our income. We knew that we would eventually lose the medicaid when my hubby got any back pay. No problem, we will just find another insurance right?

So, my hubby received some backpay and we lost the medicaid. Now, we cannot find any insurance to cover us because of the Pre-Existing conditions (fibro, raynauds, CFS etc) ... Now, my doctors want to see me every 6 months instead of every 1-2 months? (I think because I just pay the same day my cost and I get a discount).
Grrrrrr, I am sooooooo frustrated, in so much pain, I am unable to get the meds I need, except for my Lyrica which I get free....I just want to scream!

And people don't want "Obamacare"? Why? This plan would outlaw the insurance companies cherry picking off the healthy people, do away with pre existing conditions.

So what you can do for now is check around for a Free Clinic in your area. Try the Health Department. Call a hospital. Or see if your state can offer you any help.

I know when my husband was unemployed we were able to buy insurance ourselves.  Of course it wasn't as good as what we had but at least we were insured...and our children, too.  It had a pre-existing illness clause but it was only for six months.  If nothing happened in that six months then it didn't matter what I had...it would cover it.  You just have to look around.

 

I can't put the entire blame on insurance companies.  I do put blame on frivolous lawsuits though.  It's outrageous what doctors have to pay to protect themselves from these lawsuits.  This expense is passed on to the consumer and insurance companies who in turn charge more and protect themselves, too.  There was a woman who bought hot coffee at McDonald's, put it between her legs so she could drive and she burned herself.  She turned around and sued McDonald's for millions and won!  I knew then that we were in trouble.  If you can get away with that, you can get away with anything.

Sherrine, that McDonald's coffee lawsuit was not frivolous. The coffee they served was scalding hot and the woman got third-degree burns from it.
