…good morning maiden!….and Welcome to the HW forums!
As Sherrine said, we have several members on the chronic pain forum that have these….some with success and many reports of failures. I wanted to mention that an external Tens unit, such as the other member mentioned is not the same as the SCS unit. If your Dr is wanting to do this, you will first have a trial…and you must at least receive a 50 percent reduction in pain before they will consider the permanent implant.
Please do your research on these units…if for some reason that you should have a complete failure later on with the permanent unit…they usually do not remove these units, and you will be stuck with a foreign object in your body. I myself, have refused to go this route for my lumbar back pain…but would certainly consider the pain pump if needed. I'm not sure who told you that they can be removed…but it is rare and the problem is the scar tissue and the paddles….too much damage can happen.
Again make sure you do your homework! I don't care what the rep from the company is telling you…I have seen this time and time again on the chronic pain forum. I can also post several stories from our members if you would like to read them. One of my very close friends has one…and is now stuck with it ….and it no longer works…and the rep abandoned her. If…and I mean if!…you can get it removed…it will be on your nickel as well.
Now the pain pump is different…it can be removed…and easily so! However most patients have good success with them….and I have read of only one reported case of where one had to be removed.
Anyways, come on over to the chronic pain forum, and we will be happy to visit with you about
it.
Take care,
SE
