Hi, Chuck, and welcome! A good thread for you to read and show your doctor is the first thread on the forum. It's called Fibro 101. There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there. Good starting links for you are called Symptoms, What Else Could It Be, and A Thorough Explanation of Fibromyalgia. You most likely will see yourself there.
A good doctor will run you through a myriad of tests to rule out the other illnesses that have many of the same symptoms as fibro, since there is no real test for fibro diagnosis. Once you are diagnosed, you are on your way!
If you have fibro there are some supplements that have helped me a lot. I use ibuprofen with food, extra strength Tylenol, malic acid/magnesium and vitamin D3 supplements, an alternative pain product called Curamin, and a prescription muscle relaxer called Robaxin. There are links about the supplements in Fibro 101 and how they work in your body. I don't take any of the fibro medications like Lyrica, Savella, and Cymbalta. I don't want to deal with the side effects and what I do for fibro doesn't give me any side affects and it does work for me.
I also keep moving. I do gentle stretching exercises (in Fibro 101), I do a gentle daily exercise like walking, swimming, or yoga, and I pace myself. All of this combined with the "meds" above keep me in control of the pain. But, what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another. It's trial and error with this illness.
Do try to find a doctor that treats fibro patients. Ask before you make an appointment. There are still doctors out there in the Dark Ages.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. I do want to take this opportunity to thank you for your service to this country. It's people like you who keep this great country free. Thank you. I hope to hear more from you soon.
