Anyone intolerant to fluorescent lighting?

Hey everyone, I'm new to the site! I was diagnosed with Fibro this past February, after suffering horrible symptoms for 9 months following a head/neck injury.

One of my most disabling symptoms is an intolerance to fluorescent lighting!! They trigger vertigo, nausea, tension headaches, and migraines in me!! I've tried FL-41 tinted glasses, and they seem to hold the headaches and migraines off a little longer from hitting, but they don't STOP it from happening! And they delay the vertigo at all.

Does anyone else suffer from this? Have you found ANYTHING to help??? I'm desperate. I've lost my job from this (and I'm a single mother!), and I cannot get NEW work because of the lights. Does anyone have ANY tips for relief from these lights?!?

I can not handle the noise fluorescents make. We have one in the laundry room so I work quickly to get out and shut it off.

Yes! I get eye twitching over my right eye and pain in the right side of my face. The neurologist claims it's a migraine, but I never get a headache and meds for migraine's don't help. It only happens in florescent lighting. I think my body is wired wrong.

I'm sensitive to fluorescent lights but I think that's more due to my migraines than Fibro.

I'm also sensitive to black lights, they make me nauseous.

I get absolutely horrible vertigo (with nausea), tension headaches, and migraines from fluorescents! I also have heart palpitations, sweaty hands and pits (but no where else), tensed muscles in head, face (jaw), neck, and shoulders.... it's absolutely the world feeling in the world and I CAN'T get away from the fluorescents! They've destroyed my life!! My brain goes stupid, I can't think properly or speak properly. I have confusion, slow reactions... I don't get it!? It all started following a injury to my head (an elbow hit me on the side of my head).

If ANYONE has a cure, or help, PLEASE let me know!! I have also tried fl-41 tinted glasses and they don't prevent it at all!! I feel like just giving up half the time.... no cure, Drs have no idea about it, I'm just screwed apparently.

I DID ask my work to disconnect the light, they refused... said OSHA wouldn't allow it. I asked about bringing a desk lamp, they said it was a fire hazard and we couldn't have anything plugged in. I even covered my entire cubicle with black plastic tablecloth... but it was open a bit on the side and apparently that's all it needs to destroy me? I tried everything. I was on FMLA and then STD before they fired me... now I'm unemployed and struggling because I can't just "go get a job". It sounds easy enough to just CHANGE THE LIGHTS!!!! Right? But no one does, or cares, and plus the rest of the building would still have the dang things anyway. I feel like giving up alot lately, I've seen so many doctors and specialists and had tests and tests and tried meds, and tried therapies... nothing works. I'm glad I'm not alone, but I really wish someone knew of a cure or atleast a bandaid for the issue!

For years, i have had trouble driving at night, when car lights hit me. Very difficult to see. Flourescent lighting did nto seem to bother me.Now when i go into a store, it is very difficult to see. The neurologist said it is from teh strokes. They hit in  my occipital lobe. I can walk into a store, and can not make out people's faces, every thing is blurry and dim. He said i could check with my opthmalogist but since it is a brain injury, they might not be able to do anything. about to make appt anyway since i am having problems seeing the tv across the room now. The eye doctor told me last time that i had the beginnings of cataracts. oh boy!

My eyes do not react to light as quickly as they should and have not since i was in a motorcycle wreck and hit my head. I tried transition lenses and they are great outside, but hard to use when working inside esp on a computer.

I seem to remember reading about others with these lights...

We with fibro, tend to have many sensitivities...but not all of us are sensitive to the same things..

In my case , flowers indoors, or people wearing perfume can make me sick in minutes...my last job..my boss hired my office mate on the condition she not wear perfume because of my allergies.

Also have to take child doses of many medicines because i am super sensitive to them.

I know others who cannot be around loud noises. I hope you can find work where this is not such a huge problem.

LED lights are the best for us.

Uv50 baseball cap works under flueresent lights for me. I had head injury. My headaches occurred at work or on public transport my head would swell so much making it impossible to sleep on my left side of head where injury occurred. All this time I thought injury had not healed only to find out that the injury has left me allergic to light - flueresent light, incandescent and cool led and warm led if sat a few cms below these. Also allergic to oncoming traffic headlights and tunnel lights.

Many times nearly gave up job but perserevered through pain. Now I have desktop set to 100 percent brightness so no flicker. Installed f.lux to reduce blue light and make desktop appear like halogen light. Installed halogen lights at home. Wear amber tinted glasses with blue light blocker to watch TV. Have VDU glasses with blue light blocker. Moved desk to near window. Was at worst when sitting away from natural light. The baseball cap has removed ALL pain to my complete and utter disbelieve. The downside is I have to wear a uv50 hat at work to sit under flueresent light's the plus side is no pain. Hat off and pain comes back.

I know this is a super old thread + I apologize for that. But I have lyme disease + have had literally every symptom mentioned in this thread. I’ve met way too many people who were first dx w/fibro + then later found out it was lyme. myself Included!!
