Tramadol - feeling buzzed?

The first night i took Tramadol, it made me feel weird, like my eyes were WIDE open and i was slightly buzzing, took forever (at least 7hrs) before that feeling left e and the pain started to finally go.

I havent taken it since (was only the other night) but i think i will have to tonight as im sore. The sleeping tablets i am on is Tameze 10mg, but they dont seem to be working, so at a loss as to what to do?

I feel stimulated with tramadol as well. I do not take it at night, for that reason. Ionly use it during the day.

I try to go sans painkillers at night. I take a hot bath, rub My body with lotion, and meditate. Thisgets me through most nightly pain, and my generic ambien does the rest.

Catch 22 for me if i use it during the day, i wouldnt be confident driving feeling that way, and i need to drive to my horses during the day as well as other general errands :(

My son uses Tramadol and it works well for him. He can only use it if he is in for the day though. It's not addictive and the doctor wants him to not use narcotics since they are addictive. My son's combination of Tramadol and Flexiril is working well until all his levels and bloodtests are normal so he can start a Fibro med.

Hello Allicat!

This is a very normal side effect especially when taking the first few doses of a pain med. However as usage continues those should diminish over time. As for the eyes being wide open…are you talking about the pupils? Narcotics will always pin the pupils tight even in a dark setting and will generally be non responsive to changes of light. I served a few years in Law enforcement and this was a good indication that the driver was on some sort of pain med. I'm not very familiar with the Tramadol product though, and I see that it is considered a non narcotic according to a reply here.

I myself have taken large doses of Oxycontin and yes at first had a small problem with a little light headedness…but again that quickly stopped. Currently I'm on Fentanyl, and again there is no side effect like that for me.

I wasnt game enough to look at what my pupils were doing lol.

It felt as if i was just always holding my eyes wide open (like huge eyes they give anime charachters!) Even when i finally was able to get to bed they still felt open byehind my eyelids :O

I hate taking meds so leave it until i really have to, as my brother who is bipolar and schitzophrenic used to get addicted to his meds very easy.

…I hate pain med's too…but in order to have some sort of quality of life I have opted to use them…and I work a full time job as well. Not fun at all. It seems to be the lessor of two evils…but not by much! rolleyes

Momwithfibroteen, you might want to do a little more research on tramadol. It is as addictive as narcotics for many people. It can and is abused just as narcotics are. Withdrawal can be miserable even when you slowly reduce the dosage.

A few people in my support group had terrible problems due to becoming addicted to tramadol. And yes, I mean addicted, not dependent or tolerant.

Also, flexeril and tramadol together increase the risk of serotonin syndrome. While your son's risk is probably very low, please become familiar with the symptoms just in case.

Yes i was told it was very addictive as well. I also worry about the seretonin effect as i am about to start zoloft as well wich together with tramadol can up the risk of sizures, however i am on epilem as well so fingers crossed i will be ok.

Tramadol makes my mother buzzed, but with me I don't feel anything but pain relief.

I take tramadol during the day, never in the evening or I'll be awake all night. I need a different solution there. No buzz, but it does elevate mood. No addiction, have stopped it cold many times.

I've had serotonin syndrome a couple of times bad and never take it at the same time as anything else that raises the level. When starting a new med along with tramadol, I start with half or a quarter the smallest dose. The alternative is to reduce the dose of tramadol. The pills are scored and soft, easy to break.

When I first started tramadol I felt that way, but once my body adjusted it wasn't like that anymore. Now even if I go a few days without it I am fine.

I now cut Tramadol in half, so I take 25 mg in the morning and the other 25 mg
at about 3 pm.

It does hurt my sleep if I take it later. I am often still in pain but the medicine takes the edge off.

PS it is an addictive medication.

Tramadol did absolutely nothing for me. I eventually went to vicodin. Now I take oxycodone 7.5. It doesn't effect my sleep nor does it give me a buzz. It works well for pain, though I am not pain free. But I couldn't bare to think how I would be feeling if I didn't have it, so I am happy with what I have.

I don't think that the buzz part lasts that long after you have taken it a few times. Though it sounds like you would rather not. If you are taking ssri's, I don't think it matters when you take the tramadol, (as far as seratonin syndrome) because the antidepressants keep it constant in your system. If you are at risk for SS or seizures, I would stay away from the tramadol.

Well last nights didnt leave me too buzzy, so thats ok, however it didnt take the pain completely away like it did the first time i took it a couple of days ago.

However i did have a huge headspin moment this afternoon, just minutes after getting home (and i was driving!) wich caused me to have an anxiety attack. Im not sure if its the tramadol wich has caused it (was well after 12 hrs since id taken a tablet) or my epilem?

When I am flairing I take the tramadol every 12 hours and it helps better to keep it in my system, but when not flairing I try not to take till I over do it :-)

That feeling will go away!! I have been on tramadol for at least 5 yrs. I take 100 mg 3 times a day, and it only takes the edge off my pain. I know it can make u feel sick to ur stomach some but if u eat when taking it it will cut down on the effect it has on u, meaning it won't help as much. Also it is now considered a narcotic. I can't believe they changed it to that bc it's not very strong for me anyway. But it can be very addictive. I know someone who got to taking like 25 a day!!

I take 50mg of tramadol for my fibromyalgia pain to take the edge off. When I get a flare up I have to take something stronger like Norco 750mg. But..... I take tramadol now to prevent in flare ups but really at night I to feel it keeps me up & I didn't know why I stay up at night. I get maybe 2 hours of sleeps. I just started walking again & when I walk & excercise I don't take as much tramadol.

I take tramadol 50mg every 6hrs with a 5mg flexeril and I like that it helps except for my very bad flare ups.At first I got that buzzed feeling but now I really don't enless I have no eaten. I know the dissolvable trams have a crazy fast reaction and don't care for those ones. I will say being 26 Im thankful the trams work because I know once I have to be on a narcotic its a very hard journey to go backwards. My mother also has fibro, copd, 3 back surgeries and many many more things and she is very addicted to pain pills. I know 1st hand she needs them but it makes me sad to see the way she gets each month because she abuses her meds.

I think im lucky being on the 12 hr one, even though it takes a good 4-5 hrs to take any edge off the pain, but i dont take it every 12 hrs, only every 24hrs, and only if i really need to, so im hoping i wont have the addiction factor.
