Hi Everyone,

I've been investigating, googling, trying to help myself with this dry eye condition that bothered me a lot yesterday. Due to hurricane Isaac the wind was coming from the SE direction. A fertilizer factory is located SE of here. It runs 24 hours a day, every day. When I closed the windows later in the day my eyes felt much better.

P.S.

I've also read that dry eyes can come from air purifiers. I purchased one with an ionic option 3 mos. ago and after using it for a time, my dry eye condition became much worse.

I'm no longer using it.

I seem to be very sensitive to sugar, and find my eyes are dry following too much sugar consumption. I don't have any problem, though, with a small amount of sugar.
I don't know if this helps you--maybe it's just me!

Good article. One of the contributors to my dry eyes is the fact that they don't completely close when I'm sleeping (gross, I know). That is why the night time lubricating/protective ointment is so important for me.

If you (general) have dry eyes, you can have someone take a look when you are sleeping to see if this might be an issue for you.

I use systane high performance eye drops during the day, and this dry eye severe gel at night. genTeal is the name.

They are more expensive than the store-brands, but worth it.

I use Bausch & Lomb "Soothe Night Time Lubricant Eye Ointment."

I get it at Walmart for around $8.00. I haven't found it any cheaper than that. It is in the same section as the contact lens solution.

I don't put it in until I am in bed ready to sleep, because it does create a film and will make things blurry. When I wake up I wipe the excess off with a tissue (it will moisturize your eyelids too, lol), but the "blurriness" is gone, and my eyes feel really protected and moisturized.

I have severe dry eye. I use Restasis prescription eye drops.

My face swelled up terrible when I used Restatsis.
