Small nerve neuropathy

Hi Everyone:

I saw my rheumatologist a few days ago and mentioned my overall numbness that progressed gradually over the years. She thinks I have something called small nerve neuropathy. She says many of her fibro patients have this.

She's ordered two CT scans for me. This will tell her whether she thinks I need to see a neurologist. If I were to see a neurologist I'm not sure how that would help.

Hi almost medfree: I saw a neurologist a few years ago, and will be seeing a new one next week.

I'm wondering if alpha lipoic acid might help the numbness? I have been searching online and have read several positive things about it. Maybe it's worth mentioning to a neurologist, if you do happen to see one, to see what he/she has to say about it.

I would guess a neurologist might be able to narrow down whatever is going on. I had several tests when I last went, and I expect I will have several more soon! Not overly 'fun,' but it might be worth a few visits. The tests I had weren't bad or invasive--a couple MRIs, checking reflexes, nerve tests, etc. All in all, it wasn't bad at all and worth the time, I felt.
