I just looked through the results from the labs done at my rheumatologist and my c reactive protein is ridiculously high at 15.8, three times what it should be. I read this indicates inflammation in the body. Does anyone know if this correlates in some way to fibro?

Fibro isn't an inflammatory illness but many have other things that can cause inflammation. I know I do.

Also, look up that test on line. Sometimes a test will be high and then low the next time. Don't start stressing. I'm sure your doctor would have done something if this was a real problem. The stress will make your pain worse.

As Sherrine mentioned...Fibro is not thought to be an inflammatory illness...so while it's important to at least see if the Drs. are concerned enough to try and see what else is going on down the road...it may have just been a fluke in the results this time around.

People who are on birth control can sometimes have a false positive/higher reading.

Even having a higher BMI (body mass index) can cause a high reading for this test.

So...as mentioned, try not to worry about it and speak with the DR. next time around to see what they say.

My mom just went throught this a few months ago where she had a blood test come back really high for liver enzymes but then the next test it was completely normal so they just chalked it up to a fluke...

My doctor and I discussed this possibility because mine has been as high as 13. She says some of her PR patients have CRPs in the 60s.

Mine was high last time also. However I had a horrible staph infection on my leg, the docs determined that was likely the cause. So I pretest next month, but am all healed up from the infection so it should be OK.

Thanks everyone so much for the thoughtful responses! I meant to get back to this post yesterday but I have been laid out with a migraine since then. I have always had inflammatory issues too Deepwell and so have some of my fibro friends which is why I'm confused as to why it is not considered an inflammatory illness. I am on birth control, so that could be a possible cause behind the result. I now need to get blood work done every three months so I will just keep up with this and ask them to recheck next go around. It is just so frustrating-I know something is going wonky in my brain, but no doctor wants to commit to an answer eyes So much for modern medicine...
