ive had fibromyalgia for about a year now.

My neurologist wanted me to start a trial of CYMBALTA.

I hesitated because because its a type of ssnri and i dont do well on those because i have type 2 bi-oplar. my psychiatrist advised me not to take that because it could de-stabilize me.

Other options are lyrica and so on.

Pain pills, ssnri's,nerve pain pills etc.

I really dont want take anything because im sensitive to meds and reap the side effects.  in fact ive grown phobic to meds.but lately the pain and associated symptoms have been so bad that im considering something.

So many people take truck loads of meds for this but it sound s like they provide little to no  realief.

HIt or miss with medicine is ok for me, side effects, not ok.

is it worth it??

some medicine feedback would be appretiated.

If you don't want to take meds, that is cool. You don't have to. But since you asked, I take pain meds and they help. I still have some pain, but I can handle it. I hope that you find what works for you.

I don't have side effects.

It is a good thing that you knew not to take the cymbalta.

I was tried on Cymbalta and it didn't help my pain. It seemed to increase my pain and it made me feel numb.

I'm medication sensitive. I've had pretty bad side effects to a lot of different types of meds tried on me for fibro and they didn't help. My rheumatologist told me many people with fibro are. I do everything I can naturally to try to help myself.

For fibro I take Savella 50mgs 2x daily and will take a muscle relaxer (Flexeril) as needed. I also take a multi vitamin, Vitamin D3 and Vitamin B-12. This combo helps me.

I'm lucky not to have any bad side effects. Before the Savella, I tried Cymbalta but could not tolerate it...it made me dizzy and sick to my stomach.

The meds are just part of my regimen...I try to eat healthy, exercise, keep busy to distract pain, and take time for relaxation therapy. Each day I try to live with an attitude of gratitude...be thankful for my blessings and it gets me through my day.

I am on a combination of pills. I take yikes I can't spell it Amatripline? Ok guys, correct my spelling. In our med world we just punch in the first two letters and it will put up a list of medications spelled like that. I also take gabapentin, percocet, morphine, t3 for pain. However, I'm atypical not only do I have fibro but a complex medical history including necrotizing gramultous inflammation pseudotumor (aka a tumor made of inflammation) and undergo chemotherapy for it too.

Like Robin, I eat healthy, I exercise.

I empathize, JC. There just isn't an easy answer here, though. As long as you have a good working relationship with the doctor who's treating your fibro, do your research and keep track of your side effects, I don't know what else you can do.

A lot of it is trial and error when it comes to our meds. I hate taking them, but at this point, I need to. I do try to keep them all to the lowest possible effective dose. I take Nortriptyline, Clonazepam, Gabapentin, and right now also Hydrocodone (that's for post-surgical pain and related nerve damage. Hopefully, I won't need it forever.)

And Levothyroxine, but that's for low thyroid, not Fibro-related.

My neurologist mentioned to me via e-mail that their is a new medicine for FmS that he may consider giving me, not sure what it is yet.

ill post it after my visit.
