Great sensitivity to cold weather--age or fibro or both?

I've noticed I'm having more sensitivity to the cold when I'm outdoors walking. I'll see people somewhat younger than me outdoors in short sleeves and I'm wearing a winter jacket, scarf, and hat in 55 degree weather....

Anyone else have this problem?

I'm definitely more sensitive to heat and cold. In the winter...ThermaCares are my best friends!! LOL...

I've also always had very sensitive ears and would get terrible earaches when I was a kid...And now, it seems any temp that is under 50 degrees with even a slight wind...I need to wear ear muffs...So...I've had a few people stare at me when I am wearing them while they are wearing just a sweatshirt as I walk my doggy each night..

So...I just adapt and do what I gots ta do! LOL..

Yes, I was comfortable walking from the grocery to my car today (wearing a turtleneck, fleece jacket, and winter coat zipped up) and I noticed, as usual, no one else even had a jacket on...it was almost 60 degrees!

It has gotten worse since I've gone through menopause, so maybe it is party age-related, but I've been this way for at least a decade. I go to the mall to walk a lot when I'd really rather be doing it outside...just not worth getting chilled.

Also largely depends on how your body is acclimatized. You get used to certain temperatures. Every body is different. Warm weather will be percieved by someone in south Florida differently than someone located in south New York state.

My body prefers somewhat cooler weather, and has consistently.

Today was 60 in the south and I wanted to walk around in short sleeves and shorts. I couldn't though but it was beautiful weather.

SB, I know what you mean about the ears. I've become more wimpy about having my ears covered especially if it's windy.

Debbie, I think it has to do with age too. I'm also post-menopausal.

Myself, the weather must be pretty nice in Virginia. I love 70 to 80 degree weather. It's the kindest temps for my fibro.

Yes, Joy, we've had temps lately where a person could wear short sleeves and shorts. It makes my tightness increase bigtime if I get cold.

I think "age" takes the blame for a lot of it. I noticed when I first got fibro, I spent so much time wondering about it and dealing with it, that I didn't think about the fact that I was aging in the meantime. Ten years has now gone by since I first (knew that I had) got fibromyalgia. These are crucial years for me because I was in 40's-50's. I think age plays a huge part in it, not to ignore the fibro itself though. We all got to face it, we are all getting older. Do try to enjoy life before you get too old. It is hard with the everyday struggle of fibromyalgia, but not impossible. Good day to all!

Thanks for your input. I would be curious to know if those who are younger than us with fibro have a more difficult time with the cold.

Yes, we are getting older and yes I do try to stay positive. Right now I'm leaving to go pick up a stone necklace I had an artist make for me, she works at a bead store. I'm going to have earrings with a stone attached to match. It should be interesting. They are very light stones I made sure of that.

What kind of stones? I use to make jewelry. With semi prescious stones and silver wire. It got expensive though with all the wire. I made my own chains. I love working with my hands. I crochetted 22 winter scarves for the animal shelter for their Christmas Walk that they had last Saturday. They said all but two sold. So I made them over 300.00. I am so proud...

I just got a necklace for my birthday. It is a large ball of labradorite. I just love it. I love the setting. And fortunately it isn't too heavy either. I was happy for that. I had made some labradorite earrings once, and they were very heavy. I think I still have them somewhere. Maybe I can find them and wear with the necklace I got.

It is raining here today unfortunately. I wanted to walk. Need an umbrella.

Almost Medfree,

Have you had your thyroid checked? I recently learned that I have hypothyroidism and was told that is why I am freezing all the time. I know that sometimes the thyroid can start acting up in older women for no reason. I'm also the same with my ears. If my ears and feet are cold there is no way I can warm up no matter what!
