Fibro and immune system

Am I the only one who consistently gets sick with illnesses that need antibiotics? In the last year, I have had pneumonia, bronchitis twice, sinus infections twice, and colds and allergy issues in between.

Hi, Peaches, and welcome!  I have several autoimmune problems but don't get sick or have sinus problems so that's probably not what is causing this.  I used to have chronic bronchitis and get walking pneumonia several times a year but once I stopped smoking that stopped, too.  I do get a flu shot every year and for some reason I don't seem to get colds now.  I'm thankful for that.

 

Be sure to read Fibro 101...first thread on the forum...when you get a chance.  There is a wealth of info in there about fibro and you will learn a lot.

Oddly Peaches, I never, ever have a cold, the flu or anything like that. Weird stuff......oh yes, all the time. I haven't needed antibiotics in years. Watch me now come down with something!

I have been having this same problem lately, and I'm starting to wonder if possibly the exhaustion and fatigue is what actually lowers some of our immune systems?

I catch everything that comes down the road and waves. Whenever I get an infection in one area, my colon gets going as well (UC), and it takes forever to get rid of.

I take supplements such as EmergenC and Airborne when I feel the start of anything. That, and relatively clean living, keeps me kinda sorta healthy.

I'm one of the ones that RARELY gets sick. I used to get bronchitis once a year, maybe a cold or two but haven't been sick in years. Once in a while Ill get the start of a sore throat, but it goes away. I swear it's been a good side effect of my fibro. Coincidental I'm sure.

With hindsight....i believe I've had fibro for most of my adulthood (dx came in 2008) (48yrs old now). I had a period of remission in there, too. I had periods of lots of lung trouble, pneumonia, bronchitis frequently, etc. i take care of my asthma a bit better now and I certainly take MUCH better care with a very healthy lifestyle. Lifestyle change has had the biggest impact. No more full time work, regular pool exercise, vegetable based diet with some red meat and mostly fish.
I would like to hear more about adrenal fatigue and who diagnoses it in canada?
My supplements are vitB12, vit D, some vit C at times, a bit of colloidal silver if I feel I am struggling with infection.
Any other people find indispensable?

Wondering if you smoke, peaches, or live around passive smoke?

When I'm around cigarette smoke I get cold symptoms and a fibro flare.
