Spent time a few nights ago paying medical bills. It was an eye-opener.

I have noticed recently premiums rising, and more incidental bills for things like testing, blood drawing, and prescription drugs getting more expensive. Also, I have noticed that doctors have started to bill me, rather than collect the co-pay at the time of the visit.

Not meaning to bring up anything political, but things are getting far worse, for far more.

Sigh, tell me about it. I don't want to get political in any way either, just could use a good vent. I had to go to the ER a few weeks ago. I try to avoid the ER like the plague, but this was a life threatening situation, and I didn't have a choice. The bill was over $11,000. Add that to a medical procedure and lots of tests I've had to have done over the past few months, and even though I do have insurance, my part is still a bit staggering. Fortunately, the hospitals (two involved) set up payment plans.

I am thankful that I have insurance, and I am thankful that I can pay over time, but it is so stressful to have medical bills pile up.

Well...I no longer have a single doctor that will take Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance.  Cash, credit card or check only.  And try getting  paid back if you pay in cash.  My supplemental insurance still owes me $80 from last August.  'The check's in the mail'.  Having several family members who are in the medical profession I can promise you that the fun has just begun.  AND... I just heard that my rheumy is leaving his practice and going into research.

Yes.... I am waiting for my emergency room visit from a few weeks ago. I expect the bills to start arriving any time now.

Donna - this shocks me!! I've known of doctors who don't take Medicare, (which is lousy) but no private insurance at all? I thought things were going to get better, not worse? Or is this just a transitional period?

I just got a bill from a test recently $500! I had to get it added to my other bill I owe to the hospital and it's almost $1000 together. They require a monthly minimum payment which I'm not sure I can make now.

When I was younger, I once paid 15$ a month towards a doctor's bill. It took me three years AND some of my tax returns, but I paid it off eventually.

Hi Debbie...my supplement is private and neither my dermatologist or opthomologist take it.  I pay...then send in the paperwork myself.  I haven't seen a dime in almost five months.  And believe me, I've called.    The receptionist at the dermatologist's office did me a favor and called them...they told her the the same thing.  They are backed up and 'the check's in the mail'.  AND...I got paperwork that my premium will go up AGAIN at the first of the year.

I'm afraid this is how it's gonna be.

Alaskans were in very need of Dr's that take Medicare. They opened two nice buildings plus one for uninsured. I was blessed to get on there. Many Dr's don't take Medicare or they are limited on how many. Our state is mostly young, but they are just seeing a rise in older population. I just finished off a hospital bill that I was making payments on, they said. If I pay in full I could get half of the bill nock off. Yes! I saved $450
