I usually carry earplugs in my purse for when I need them. As many have noted, excess sound can be bothersome, especially when already worn out or near/in a flare.
I had to put them in during a visit to the laundramat tonight. Long stressful day, hot, already bothered by the smells in the laundry, when loud guy on cell comes in. Big guy having a long conversation. He was likely perfectly niceand thoughtful, helping his wife with the clothes, but his voice was as big as he was.
I left them in driving home, picking up a movie at Redbox, etc. I was actually uncomfortable driving in them... I felt I would too easily zone out on danger sounds or dangerous drivers. Also, did not feel so incredibly safe standing at the outdoor dvd kiosk without all my senses working properly. I shall not drive wearing them again.
