New Kid on the Block

Well hello!

I'm new here
I have found it difficult to feel a sense of support because no one around me understand exactly what I feel. I'm hoping to have a little online support so here I am!

I'm a 22 year old female diagnosed on Tuesday with Fibro. Am I the only one excited to finally have a name for what I am experiencing? Luckily I had an amazing doctor who diagnosed me within an hour (Yes, a whole hour of talking face to face with a Dr.! :) That's never happened to me before) I had been to my GP before, but never a specialist. It took years though before being diagnosed.

I'm just glad I can research exactly what to do and things to help now!

Anyway, thought I would say hello.
I've been researching a lot on fibro and it's kind of scary the images that pop up..so negative. It's not a fun disease, but I'm just happy to be alive.

Hi, AmyJo! Before I forget, you might want to take a look at our 1st thread, "Fibro 101"....it's very good reading, very helpful. Many different links.

I'm glad you found us, also. We are a really supportive group. It is difficult, when people all around you don't understand...but come to the forum, and everyone does! It's not that we each have every single possible symptom (there are so many!) but we all get the idea. I could have written your sentence about FINALLY finding a good doctor, and yes, I was very relieved to have a name, and validation that it wasn't all in my head. 

I was diagnosed in my mid-30s, but I'd been suffering for the better part of a decade by then. It's particularly hard when you're so young, like you, to not be able to keep up with your peers. I feel for you. We do have a bunch of young members, and lots of old-timers like me too :)

Welcome yoAmyJo! I think reading some good books on fibromyalgia will be very beneficial to you. Amazon has some good ones. It really helped me and I finally found why things were happening. Sounds like your on a good start already with supplements and excercise. I found out the more natural I keep it the better I get.

I just read post frequently and got some ideas on how to manage my fibro. It was in no time, I started to feel some better. I am doing really well now. I hope you find your regimine soon.

Amy Jo, because you are new to fibro, it is not uncommon to ride the emotional rollercoaster...I still do at times and I lived with fibro a long time.

Many of us went through a mourning process when we were first diagnosed...sort of a grieving process for the loss of our old selves. I think it is normal to feel many differant emotions at this time. Life becomes easier as time goes by...there is an a acceptance of a new normal. You will find that life can be enjoyable in spite of fibro. Take one day at a time, it really helps.
