Sorry to hear of your troubles...that is the hard part about going to the urgent care/ER...they really are just trying to quickly assess if you are in a life threatening situation and then will send you on your way. So it usually does take seeing a specialist like you did with your GI to get a proper diagnosis.
I was diagnosed with IBS back in my early 20s. Looking at the pictures from the barium test it was amazing to see! My colon looked like linked baby sausages...LOL....As in it was open, then almost shut, open, almost shut...So it was always so painful to digest my food.
Since then, I pretty much am able to handle things naturally. I eat 6 small snacks/meals a day and lots of natural fiber. I drink 12-14 glasses of water a day. And for the last few years I switched to eating all organic/natural. This has made a really big difference since our bodies have a hard time digesting artificial ingredients and preservatives.
I just wrote about this on another thread about the video online made by a scientist who swallowed a camera pilll along with eating a package of Ramen noodles. It is a bit graphic but really shows how our body doesn't break down this type of food that is made to last through a nuclear blast and years of survival! haha
I also have tons of adhesions throughout my abdomen and the changes I have made also help these as well. Along with walking every day and yoga/stretching every am/pm.
Because of the medication I take, I can tend to be on the constipated side at times....so I use Miralax. This works perfectly for me! It is NOT a laxative so it is not harmful at all. It completely dissolves in any drink including water! It is not like those fiber powders....
I haven't heard of Xanax being used for IBS but I hope it helps you....I have learned that things like a muscle relaxer is not good for IBS because it "relaxes" the colon and slows it down. So, I have to be careful when I use my Flexeril and not too many days in a row.
Anyway...thanks for sharing your story...I think many of us here have quite a few diagnoses in addition to our Fibro so it's nice to share what works..
