Sudden Onset of Fibro ??

Back in July I was able to walk miles and ride my bike all afternoon. I got up one morning with my feet hurting so bad I could not ride my bike then within a week I could not walk and the pain had spread to my entire body.

For years my wife and I would walk 5 to 8 miles a day with twice a day outings – now I can hardly get to the bathroom.

My rheumatologist said that did not sound like fibro starting so fast but all my tests came back negative for other things.

Has anyone else had fibro come on this fast and be near totally disabled in a week or two.

My fibro came on in 45 minutes while I was watching television. It started in my toes, then ankles, then knees, etc. it worked its way up until it hit my elbows. It was like I banged the "funny bone", with the intense shooting pain running down my arms into my fingertips...and that pain didn't start to subside for over two weeks. I had all-over body pain and the pain caused weakness in my arms and legs. I thought it was rheumatoid arthritis because the pain was symmetrical on my body but tests didn't show that.

Do keep moving and walking as much as you can...even if it's a few houses down from you. Walking is great for fibro and will help you with the pain. Just don't overdo it. Start out slowly and add a little ore distance each day until you know you have reached your limit. Walking has helped me immensely.

There are so many other symptoms besides just the pain that its possible that you were showing symptoms before the pain but didn't notice it.
For me, mine seemed to set in after a few hours of sleep. I would walk to and from work with extra walking home and back on my lunch. I was a Cna, so I was on my feet and working a very physical job. I worked third shift, so I got home a little after 6 and would sleep, after a shower, until my husband had to get up for work. One day I was trying to get up and it felt like I pulled every muscle in my body. I thought it was because I'd been working a 2 person job on my own the night before, but that feeling didn't go away for months. I was tested for everything and declared a fibromite in late July, I think. I'm foggy this morning so it could have been in June, red, chair, or now. :P

I was walking 40 minutes a day in 2 twenty minute increments and taking Taekwondo classes when Fibro hit me.

James , I know we tend to look back and see what our lives were before this fibro appeared. We have to go through this grieving period and it's normal. I finally worked through this with my therapist. It still amazes me how many symptoms we have with this fibro. I was able to see some real life humans that were perserved at a special showing at the museum. One of the displays of the humans you could see all the nerves(real) going through out the body. All I could say to my husband as we looked was "No wonder we fibro patients hurt so bad". The body has so many nerves.

I hope you can get some good pain control. I found out that I am so much happier when my pain is under controlled.

Mine started one morning at work with my left hand going numb, and within two days it was pain through my entire body. A rheumy diagnosed me and didn't seem to think that was at all unusual. I think a lot of people experienced what Angelic_Victory said about other symptoms showing up first, though. I had had episodes of feeling flu-y for over a year beforehand, flares of costochondritis for four years, and fasciitis on and off for over ten years.
