ANY PACIFIC NW FIBRO PEOPLE OUT THERE?

I am doing as much research on FM as I can. I grew up in sunny California and have lived in the Pacific NW since 2000 where its wet and cold 8-9 months of the year. I'm curious if anyone else living in this neck of the woods feels the symptoms more intense here?  I'm just short of moving back to Cali. Any feeback would be appreciated. confused

I live in the SF Bay Area.... Not the Pacific NW but it is pacific lol. I would like to move up to Oregon or Washington. I have family and friends in Portland.

What part of California did you grow up in? I'm going to guess SoCal.

@ Ms. Megz: I am from central California, north of L.A. If you can handle A LOT of rain and darkness, I wish you the best of luck:) It is beautiful up here, but can be very depressing through the long winter/spring months. I am married with two kids but no other family which makes it harder.

@ Deepwell: Thank you for the feedback. My doctor says that the weather here is a big factor for FM and see's a lot in the long winters. I miss the warmth and we are talking about moving back to Cali. I'm glad to hear that moving back to Texas has been a positive thing for you.

Oh I love the rain and foggy weather. My bf does too he's from Santa Cruz so he's used to fog.

I can understand how warmer weather would make people with fibro feel better. Last year my bf and I were able to put enough aside for a small trip to Hawaii, and I felt great while we were there. Sadly we were only there for 4 days I wish it could have been 2 weeks, or forever lol.

My mom has fibro too, she lives in Carlsbad and has been trying to get us to move down there. I think she's lonely, she is the only one of us down there. She has friends, but no family and like you said that makes it hard.

I am orginally from L.A. and have been in Oregon since 1996, I don't think I could ever move back, could not afford to live down there but the winters are rough with the damp cold. I am not working anymore so don't have to run out in it early in the morning but still by February I really need some sun. Beautiful day today, sunny and around 50 but will be gone tomorrow. Good luck on your decision!

I'm from Santa Cruz too and now I live near Eugene, Oregon. The long winters do wear on me. I've found that Acupuncture helps. I also try to get to CA to visit family during the winter months.

Joy, I am currently trying a treatment called "Bowen" it is a type of massage technique. The first 4 were painful and then we decided to do a light touch Bowen instead of the deeper technique. I had a good response with the lighter touch, I will continue with that until my insurance says no more. My doctor has recommended accupuncture as well and I will be trying that out. It has been about 10 years since I have gone to an accupunture treatment. Back then I was having migranes, little did I know it was FM back then. I will keep you posted on my progress.

Although not a native of the PNW, I did live there for sixteen years. This summer we relocated to Denver for my husband's job. The change in my fibro symptoms has been for the better. I have yet to spent a full day in bed since moving here, where that was the norm when I lived in Washington. Since moving to Denver I have made changes in my diet, which has also been helpful. I do not eat wheat, I've cut back tremendously on the amount of gluten & dairy in my diet. Eating more healthy, taking vitamin B complex, vitamin D3, a food based multi-vitamin and probiotics (Udi's from whole foods, refrigerated) has also helped. I do go to a fibro clinic here where I receive massage and acupuncture, also helpful. Portland Oregon had an excellent clinic called the Frida Center, but I heard they were closing. Ironically after writing all of this the most important thing I have learned about Fibro is that it varies tremendously from one person to another. So, what might work for one, might not work for another.

Hmmmm. I live in the San Fran Bay area, and even here, from about Nov-March or April, I am just miserable. I don't know how much the cold, gray weather actually affects my Fibro in a physical manner, but psychologically, it freaking destroys me ! And this, even since I have knocked my Fibro out by 95+% through diet and exercise.

Seriously, I spend SO much of my day dreaming about warm, sunny, tank top and shorts weather.....

If their was any way I possibly could, I'd move to South Florida before next Winter ! I mean, that would probably be better than driving my truck into a bridge abutment, huh ?

This cold, gray, wet weather, is just miserable beyond words :( :( :( Especially now, since I dumped all the insulation (fat).

I love Florida.  I lived in northern Ohio before moving to Florida and I was in a lot more pain.  Summers can be a bit of a pain with the afternoon storms but they don't last all day...usually.

 

I'm in the Tampa Bay area so come on down!

Hey, you wouldn't happen to be looking to adopt, would you ? I know this really nice 48 yo kid who needs a good, warm home...... :)
