Mouth pain medication ?

Somebody posted something about a cortisone type of med, that was made specifically to be used orally for mouth pain.... But like a dummy, I forgot to write the name of that stuff down, and now I can't find it anywhere. I've been having a lot of mouth issues...... but could not remember the name of this stuff, to tell my dentist.....

I use rum!  Really!  I also swish it around and spit it out.  It works wonders with canker sores.

I'm prone to canker sores in my mouth due to Lupus and I get very tender at times.

I have oral lichen planus which is like canker sores that I get on my tongue and inside of both cheeks. It was diagnosed by an oral surgeon through a biopsy. What helps me when I get a flare up is a prescription rinse that does have a steroid in it. I rinse for half a minute 2 or 3 times a day and spit it out. It was so bad the last time, he had me just swallow it, because he wanted it to work systemically.

The name of the rinse is DEXAMETHASONE ELIXIR

I also have a gel that I can use if I only have a small patch of irritation going on. It's called FLUOCINONIDE

They are both wonderful medications and have helped me alot, as well as watching what I eat. Nothing too spicy or salty. My last flare up was after eating microwave popcorn. Never again!! It's terrible when you have mouth problems because it's so hard to even eat.

Oh, sucking on ice cubes too, would help the pain and swelling on my tongue. Hope this helps!

I don't know exactly what kind of pain you're having, but I sure hope you find something that helps.

My older daughter had a horrible episode when she was about 9. When her orthodontist put a palate expander in her mouth, she developed extremely painful sores all over her mouth. For over a week, she was in so much pain she couldn't do anything but lie on the couch, couldn't even watch TV or drink a milkshake! They were about to put her in the hospital because she'd lost so much weight. Strangely, it turned out she could tolerate chicken soup so they didn't have to.

A friend who was a Chinese medicine doctor gave her some awful-tasting liquid, which maybe helped a little...but not really.

What finally cured her was something we got from the orthodontist after hours, which he called a "troche." It was kind of like a lozenge, which just dissolved in her mouth. It took a few days, but she started getting better.....it was a very scary experience. I have no idea what medicine was in it. He couldn't tell us why this had happened to her. She's still prone to canker sores, especially when she's stressed out.

Well, I have had all different types of mouth / gum / tooth pain, and it all kind of comes and goes.....

But the main thing for about 6 weeks now, is an area on my gum, inside of my left lower jaw, has been raw, and irritated.

AK, prednisone ! I think that's what I was trying to remember. Will mention that one to my dentist, or his nurse, today.

Hey BTW, I guess I left out one little fun fact....
At the dentist yesterday, I found out that I have a molar (huge, long, curved roots) that is cracked down the center, and needs to be surgically removed :(
Molar extractions (while awake) have turned into the most horrendous, painful experiences of my entire life, in the past ! But the last one, while I was put under, was incredibly smooth. Best Dr. on the planet !!! :)

I'm hoping that after this molar gets removed, my Fibro's attention to my mouth area will mostly go away..... for a while anyway. This has been the case in the past....
