on friday I had steroid shots in my right shoulder and lower back,also had xrays of said shoulder,lower back and right knee.I returned to the dr today because the shots were not offering any relief. Was informed that I have bursitis in my knee and degenerative disk in my lower back. They scheduled an mri to check for spinal stenosis and blood work to check my thyroid,and see if I might also have lupus and/or rheumatoid arthritis. My question is.. Are these things caused by the fibro, the cause of the fibro, or do they all usually just go together?

Fibro does not cause RA or lupus...they are autoimmune connective tissue diseases.. the body's antibodies can begin attacking healthy body parts like skin, blood, muscles, joints. ligaments and organs.

Fibro is painful but does not damage muscle, bones , joints or any tissue.

Bursitis is an inflamatory condition...fibro does not cause inflammation.

It is not unusual for someone with these other ailments to have fibro too. I'm one of those people.

It does take time to sort things out through bloodwork. There is no specific blood test for fibro. There are symptoms that mimic other conditions so it is important to rule things out.

I was diagnosed with DDD of my back first. Next came Lupus. Then came Fibro.
For me it came together.

I have several autoimmune illnesses. But fibro isn't one of them. Fibro isnt autoimmune or an inflammatory illness. It just seems that way. I do have something called ankylosing spondylitis that is in the rheumatoid arthritis family that affects my entire spine...including my neck. A muscle relaxer and ibuprofen really help me with this.

Hey sovereingoddess(awesome screen name)thanks for joining us. I also have spinal issues and have had for many years as well as carpal tunnel syndrome, a misaligned hip with a flexor that pops in and out at will(TG for my Chiropractor) and beginning arthritis in my facet joints. Amazingly I didn't receive my Fibro dx until after GK radiation in 08(?). Just wondering, do you have a Fibro dx already? cause they can be wrong. Some dr.'s use them as a catch-all for "we don't know", not saying that's you just asking. Do you have any other dx's, how long have you had fibro, have you seen a rhuematologist or a neurologist? I hope you find what you need, Keep In Touch.
