I've had a couple of back surgeries with a lot of resulting "after effects," and I agree, back pain can be relentless.
I'm in the group that is leery of chiropractors, but with two surgeries, the last thing I want is someone "manipulating" my back. I do know it seems to help some people; it's just not for me.
If the usual things don't help, gentle stretching, hot showers, heating pads, OTC pain killers, etc., you might want to see your doc just to rule out a disc problem. If it is muscular, he can also give you a muscle relaxant.
Something else that might help is to put your back in a more neutral position several times a day. Lie on your back with your knees bent, and rest your calves on a sofa or chair. This position (I've been told) helps rest the muscles and takes pressure off the spine.
Muscle pain in your back and hips can be excruciating. The tiniest little muscle spasm can make your entire back hurt. It can be aching or sharp, constant or just with movement. I hope you feel better soon.
