I know I told everyone about my broken tooth well I talked to the dentist today about it. He says I need to have all my top teeth pulled due my syndrome causing very little to no enamel and 18 months of morning sickness. My top teeth are an ever loving mess. Luckily, he said my bottom teeth are in good shape.
I'm very nervous about this procedure but I know it's in my best interest. I'll be getting dentures for the top right away. I hate the dentist and this a big deal. Yikes!!!

Yep. I hate the dentist too. Is he doing it gradually or in one setting?

No fun. Mouth stuff is never easy. Good for you for facing it head-on!

All at once. He says its best to get the denture in ASAP. I am ready to feel better about my smile but just thinking about letting a dentist pull all of my top teeth has me scared! I hate it. I already warned him that he's going to want me as our of it as possible. I also have a small mouth so I'm worried about how this will go.

Yeah, my dentist complains that my mouth is too small and my tongue is too big. LOL!
He's always grabbing it to get it out of the way.

They will knock you out, and give you strong pain meds. Honestly, after the pain subsides, you will feel so much better!

I hate the dentist. I always tense up and then have a hard time moving when I leave his office. Plus the small mouth, TMJ, and bad teeth.

My thoughts are with you.

Wouldn't crowns work?  But then again, that would be very expensive. 

 

I do have a male friend who would never smile because of his horrible teeth.  They were going bad on him...would have one pulled and then another, etc.  It was getting so it was difficult for him to chew things.  Well, he bit the bullet and had both upper and lower teeth removed and they put the dentures in right away.  It used to be that you would have to wait to heal but I guess they are doing things differently now.  He immediately was smiling like the Cheshire Cat!  yeah    He's thrilled that he did that, too.  So if you do get the dentures, you most likely will be very happy you did.  Best of luck in whatever you decide.

My genetic syndrome causes my teeth to crumble. The dentist said he's afraid that since my teeth already have substantial damage that trying to place crowns may cause them even more damage. He also said that treatment plan would also mean coming to the dentist every couple months.
I'm worried about everyone knowing that I have dentures. I'm young and I feel horrible that my teeth are this bad. I haven't truly smiled since my son was born. In labor with him I broke my front tooth. It was repaired but I still feel like its noticeable.
So I'm just a big bundle of nerves. Pain doesn't worry me. I deal with pain daily, as do many of you. I'm worried about the cosmetics and the anxiety dentists give me. I go in Thursday to get the casting for the denture plate done. I wanted to wait til after the kids spring break was over.

You really can't tell that someone has dentures these days unless they are ill-fitted or don't look a thing like the original teeth. So I wouldn't worry about that.

There is a new way of doing crowns that are supposed to be as strong as your natural teeth. But, are your roots affected by your disease? If not, I'll look up that other option. It's very quick. My dentist does this procedure and so do many others throughout the US. I'm on my iPad right now so can't get to it.

I asked about doing dentures that hook into implants. They cause less wear on the bone, are more comfortable, and last longer. Full implants sound the best but I just can't afford it.
He is looking for options that I can afford and that will last longer. He's supposed to call me Monday.

My fiancee just had all his teeth out. He is waiting for proper healing time before having the dentures made. Our dentist(who does amazing work) says that if the gums don't heal post surgery/pulling teeth then the swelling goes down and the dentures flop around in the mouth. That happened to a lot of people I know who had dentures put in right away.(day of surgery)

Also have talked to to two people with implants. They r painful. One lady had them done a year ago-upper and lower and she says she is still in pain in the jaw bones. She cries at night because they hurt like having a mouth full of toothaches. She swears she would never do it again nor recommend it.

I have recently-last 6 months - begun having teeth issues. They are super-Sensitive, certain foods hurt to eat. No structural dental issues at all. Read this is issue of FM. I cannot imagine having implants even partial ones. And I always said that's what I would have. Ummmm not anymore.


I will be curios to see how yours go. Please keep us posted as I am sure I am not the only one would like to know the resulsts.

I've been doing the Pronamel toothpaste and it has helped my sensitive teeth a lot.

With my syndrome the cavity actually begins at the inside of the tooth so by the time it's visible the root and inside are destroyed. So right now many look ok but are rotting from the inside out.
The dentist is doing a lot of research on my syndrome right now. The syndrome causes wasting of connective tissue. He's concerned about the jaw bone shrinkage so that is where the idea for placing a couple of implants in as something that the dentures would snap into. The dentures won't rest fully against my gums which will cut down on the loss of jaw or any ill fitting problems in the future.
I'm so ready to get it done. Right now it's like living with an anvil over my head. I hate that every little thing is do complicated by this syndrome. I'd love to be able to anything the regular way. Lol

I'm living a dental nightmare...I have a condition called dental resorption. My body attacks my teeth like they are foreign bodies. this process is more than likely due to a combination of my inflammmatory autoimmune diseases and long term Bisphosonate (Boniva) use.  The dental specialists I've seen are stumped. I no longer take Boniva.

My mouth has seen more root canals than the average person. Not all my root canals have been sucessful and now have missing teeth farther back in my mouth. I cannot wear a partial anymore, I've had teeth snap off at the gum line. I have tooth roots still in place. Specialist are afraid of removing them, fear of the bone not healing correctly.

Even if I could have my teeth pulled, I have bony growths called tori. They would have to be chisled out...again specialists are afraid of bone not healing. I'm caught between a rock and a hard place. I continue to go every 6 months to get my teeth cleaned...it doesn't take long as I only have 19 teeth left.

I'm praying that my remaining teeth hold out for my remaing years or I will look like a hillbilly for sure :)

I do understand your frustration.

I need to find a new dentist. I have a temporary crown that I am afraid needs a root canal. I am being a wimp. Even with insurance, I couldn't afford the implants, and had a cracked tooth removed a few years ago. My gums are in bad shape, due to dental phobia. I think I really need to go to a place that has some experience with chronic pain and anxiety. My dentist said he did,but his staff was not as gentle as I would want.

Sometimes, I wish I could pull them all out and start over.

I get the anxiety. The dentist noticed that right off. He said and they have given me the twilight has and even blankets to help me stay calm.
I'm really worrying over the aesthetics and if its the right choice for the long run. There's always something to worry about, I guess.

I had the aesthetics (IV and Gas) when they pulled my wisdom teeth. I barely knew what was going on. I did wake up for a couple of seconds but was out right away.

Do you ladys get toothache in every single tooth,i just hate that,it must be due to the jaw symtoms,i asked my dentist to take them all out,but they wouldnt,will just see how it goes,hope you ladys are all fine xox

maitland: I wonder if that's nerve pain? I occasionally get a sore tooth here and there, but it goes away after some time. Hope things are better soon!

When my teeth hurt, I brushed even more. Due to the syndrome I have, I use an electrical toothbrush as it is easier for me to grip. I have as funny as this is going to sound.. mouth races with the kids. We use the double sink bathroom, and we race to see which one can brush and floss their teeth first with proper brush movements. Then we do a dentist game, where I am the dentist, and I check every tooth and they check mine. I uh happen to be real good with kids. Just don't laugh if you are on a city bus and you hear a woman telling kids "the bus is just taking a nap, when the busdriver comes they will wake up the bus then we go bye bye." At bedtime if the kids want to go somewhere, buses go night night at 8pm LOL. Just another day in paradise. I love that song lol

Does anyone notice a sensitivity to pain in their teeth, possibly from the Fibro? I just came from the dentist yesterday to have them check out a crown and it's sensitive after a couple weeks. I have a bridge that was sensitive for years! A lot of my teeth are sensitive because the gum line is receding, but the girl at the dental office told me that I'm more sensitive than the normal patient. I was jumping a lot due to shock pain when she was cleaning. Also, the temporary crown was taken off, I had the worst pain! It took three numbing shots and I still felt pain when they put the permanent crown on. I just hate being so sensitive to pain everyone on my body!

I have some teeth that love to hurt but the dentist has looked at them many times and said he couldn't find anything wrong. I just brush with pronamel toothpaste to calm them down.
