Fun day with my daughter

A year ago I never would have been able to do as much as I've done this week! This was after working a 60 hour week the last week of March! Thursday night my cousin had his book launch party in Portland, Oregon, a two hour drive from where I work. My middle daughter and I went and had a wonderful time. As I mentioned before, I love to read and getting the book my cousin wrote was awesome. Plus I drove by Powell's Books on the way home (you can do a web search. It is called Powell's City of Books and covers an entire city block) my daughter looked at it as we drove past and said "I could live there!" We have to go back once my son is home from college just so my kids and I can explore that store!

Knowing I'd get home after midnight on Thursday (or very early Friday) I asked for Friday off of work. I slept in a little then I ran a couple of errands before meeting with some friends for dinner and drinks. An evening of much laughter ensued!

Today I went to the opening of the Saturday Market. It is a crafts fair that is held every Saturday during April through October in our town. My youngest daughter wanted her friend to go, so off I went with two thirteen year old girls. When I agreed I was a bit worried that I'd be tired and grumpy, but I wasn't, and I had such fun with them! When I got there I was hungry so I made sure to go to the food area first. Then my daughter wanted a tail -- yes, one of those tails that you can see teenagers wearing (at least in my area) and the booth also had ears to match. Her friend already had a tail, so I also got her some ears to go with her tail. They both swear they are going to wear the ears and tails to school on Monday! After they put on their ears and tails they had so much fun! I just enjoyed being around their energy! Thirteen year old girls can be so incredibly funny.

The market also partners with a Farmer's market and we got some produce too. Tomorrow I'm making soup. I've already cut most of it up and it is waiting to be dropped into the crockpot in the morning.

For those who are new, I was diagnosed a year ago last July. I was barely able to walk and had to get a riser for my toilet because once I sat down I couldn't get back up because of the pain. I've worked full time the entire time, but back then I spent all of my weekends recovering and resting up for my next work week. I didn't think I'd ever be able to have fun on the weekends again. I'm glad that I was wrong!

Joy...fantastic!!!!!! Yes, there is life after a fibro diagnosis! You have found what helps you be in control of the pain and fatigue and you have a positive outlook and both have helped you greatly. I couldn't be happier for you!

You mentioned that you were afraid you would be tired and grumpy going to the Saturday market but you went anyway and had a great time. That's what we have to do. Step out and try things even though we think we'll have a rough time. You don't know unless you try. I have surprised and even amazed myself at things I have been able to do that I thought I couldn't do. You took the chance and had a great day and have some wonderful, funny memories. So does your daughter.

Thanks for sharing your story. It will give a lot of hope to many fibromites.

Joy, so glad you were able to enjoy the day with your daughter. Having fun is a great way to distract pain. It is great that your town has a Saturday market. Walking around looking at crafts sounds like a fun way to get some exercise :) I'm sure your daughter enjoyed it too :)

Joy, that sounded like so much fun, I wish I could have joined you. yeah

When you mentioned about the book store, it reminded me of when I was a girl. My parents, sister & I were in NYC for dr appts. As we were leaving my DF said 'I have a surprise for you!' He took us to Barnes & Noble. OMG! The store was huge. We went in, I got lost in the books, bought a few and just had the most marvelous time. I love books, love to read. Heaven! I'm sure when your son gets home and you make that trip, it will be terrific!

The market sounds wonderful, I love that kind of thing, also. Craft fair/ food market. I am so jealous. lol

What great news that you are able to get around and enjoy your life. Good for YOU! I know your family and friends are enjoying the time w/ you, too.

Thank you everyone. I was so happy yesterday that I HAD to share it with people who would understand WHY this was so amazing!

Yes Sherrine, I'm so glad I didn't give into the temptation to say "Maybe some other Saturday..." Like I've done so much since my diagnosis. It was a great time, and I love getting to know my daughters' friends since these are the people who will be affecting their lives for better or worse while they are teenagers.

MrsBugzy, no, not even tempted to get a tail, LOL. I got myself a GORGEOUS necklace instead :)

Yes, Crazykitty and Irish Babe we are incredibly lucky to have such an amazing resource in our town. The farmer's market has EVERYTHING from grass fed organic beef, organic eggs, to seedlings, to produce to baked goods. The crafts fair has such amazing stuff. I could spend all day there, but whenever I bring any of my kids I usually end up moving a lot faster, hehehe. It is a great place to buy gifts too.

I've also gone there to hear my co-worker perform. You could easily spend all day just sitting in the food/entertainment area watching all of the local groups perform. Yesterday the group that was playing when we first got there was really loud, so we decided that we would be happier listening to them from a distance. ;)
