I KNOW that SOME people with fibro have digestive issues.  Unfortunately I am one of them and have had Crohn's all of my life.....before fibro, I might add.  BUT this is a digestive issue and we have an IBS, Celiac Disease, Crohn's Disease, and Allergy forums that discuss this.  We aren't repeating this over and over again here. 

 

As far as leaky gut goes, they think it has something to do with the lining of the intestines...a digestive issue not a fibro issue.  These digestive issues co-exist with fibro but don't cause fibro.  If someone is really having digestive issues they need to go to the appropriate forum.

I think I forgot to mention... the main reason why I'm so excited about the leaky gut cure is because it ALSO HELPS MY FIBROMYALGIA SYMPTOMS! Although I don't think Karen should call it a "cure"... but still, it's helpful enough for me to go without those things I love, like pies, pizzas and sugar.

Interesting - I had severe pneumonia for a couple months twice when I was younger, and both times my parents gave me antibiotics and Yakult. Yakult is a fermented probiotic milk which I did not drink because it made me feel sick (I now know that I am lactose intolerant). You might ask why my parents didn't just give me something else instead... well, I didn't know why I was supposed to drink the stuff, so I was happy enough to let my brothers drink it and let my parents think that I was the one drinking it! Yeah... 4 months of antibiotics and no probiotics is probably a significant contributor to my leaky gut.

Sherrine - out of respect for you, I won't post anymore about leaky gut or IBS in the FMS forum from now on. I just wanted to reply to almost medfree.

In my experience I'd say yes, it can go away. I was diagnosed with having fibromyalgia about 9 months ago while I was working and since quitting my job 4 months ago I can hardly tell I have it. I still have random pains that do not come from prior injuries but I am in no where near as much pain as I was when I was working. I attribute it to reduction of stress. I have not made any other major changes than quitting my job, which was working in a call center for credit repair. I even told my doctor that I was confused and wondered if I ever really had it. My grandmother had it and we think my younger sister probably has it as well. My feet still really bother me with constant pain in my heels and the feeling of tacks sticking in my heels if I'm on my feet all day. I remember the pain, soreness, and just generally not feeling good though. Everyone is different and every day can be different when you have fibromyalgia, and that can be frustrating.

Hi, Lissa, and welcome! I'm glad you are doing well with fibro. It can wax and wane and that might be what is going on with you. Or maybe you were misdiagnosed. You have to have pain in all four quadrants of the body for three to four month before a fibro diagnosis is given. Some doctors out there will diagnose fibro if they don't know what is going on. Hopefully you went through tests that rule out things like lupus and Lyme disease because they have many of the same symptoms. I wouldn't worry much about that right now since you aren't having many symptoms.

Your feet issue could be plantar fasciitis. I had that badly and it got so could barely walk. It felt like someone was driving a stake through my heels. I started wearing Birkenstock shoes and that took care of the problem. These shoes help keep the tendon stretched.

It would be good if you started an introductory thread. I almost missed you! We want the members to know you have arrived.
