patterns hurt my eyes

Not sure if I have posted this already...apologies if I have

Does certain patterns hurt peoples eyes? Especially stripes and polka dots? and also some text on a page?

Is there anything to help this?

Sorry for all my questions recently...you can tell I am having a bad spell :o(

You did post something earlier, but 'sokay.

Sometimes my eyes have trouble focusing on words, patterns, speedy movements, etc. I actually JUST got back from my eye appointment. This can be an issue with the muscles that control focus of the eyes, which can get fatigued. He called it Presbyopia, which apparently comes with age.

Get your vision checked if you are worried. Eyesight is nothing to mess around with.

Yes, I have problems all the time!! It determines everything I buy as far as clothes and nic nacs, affects my driving (affects my whole life, actually. It's no small thing.) How about black and white zig-zags covering a whole wall? Now that would be fun! I also have trouble with red print on a blue background. ??

I've read about the muscle connection, too, Myself, but haven't heard the term Presbyopia. Will have to check that out. Google google google :)

Thanks all...its weird isnt it.

Im a colour consultant for a paint company, I have to look at colours and stripey wallpapers all day long!

Im googling presbyopia also

I don't know that patterns, stripes, etc. exactly bother me, but it seems I really notice them.

This is kind of silly, but a few days ago hubby, son and I were watching "Leave It To Beaver," and the Cleavers were sitting at the kitchen table. It bothered me that there was a checkered tablecloth, stripes on some of the clothes, the curtains were little squares of colors, and there were other patterns. Don't know why I even noticed, but later in the show, back in their kitchen, I immediately picked up on all those checkers/squares. For some odd reason, it just bugged me. Who knows??? Maybe it was just sensory overload.

I just googled presbyopia, and that's not it, although I have that too (needing my reading glasses more and more....but that's a pretty normal part of aging.)

To me, this other feels like I'm getting a Migraine aura when I look at patterns and those other things we mentioned. It's like they're moving, and I can't keep looking or I feet really dizzy and sick. You know those spirals that move around and "draw you in" - it's that effect, only it happens with so many things.

If I had your job, Wackers, I don't think I could do it! How long have you had this?

Luvz, you hit the nail on the head! All those "busy" patterns seem to be too much stimulation for some of our poor little brains :( The irony, at least for me, is that I LOVE patterns! I'm drawn to them. But I can't take them.

I have problems looking at stripes and zigzag patterns. Also bright colors. In the past year I've developed ocular migraines also. These have all been triggered by lights.

One was when I was trying to adjust to a new tv set. I had to return it. One was after being on the computer a long time. Then, I was changing light bulbs in an overhead ceiling fan and had another attack.

I have CFS and FM and I guess that is what is causing these episodes. I did have an MRI and several other tests, also an extensive eye exam to rule out any other causes. So far, possible ocular migraine is the only diagnosis I've been given.
