Why don't you call the doctors surgery at the beginning of every day and ask to be put on the cancellation list? That's what I do; after a few days of it I always end up with an appointment.
I haven't had my vitamin D levels tested but I do trial different supplements for a month or so to see if they help me, and vitamin D capsules helped me so I am staying on them. It's winter here so I'm careful to go out in the sun between 11am-2pm every day, which always makes me feel better.
My iron supplement is designed to enhance maximum absorption of the iron. It contains: iron amino acid chelate, vitamin C, vitamin B6, betacarotene and spirulina. Which is equivalent to eating it with a meal of: orange juice, brown rice or wholemeal wheat bread, carrot and some kind of animal product (e.g. eggs, meat).
