Hello everyone. So glad to be here for support and help. I have had Fibromyalgia for many years now. I seem to be managing it very well most days. But I have gotten a new symptom in the last 2 years. Its sweating. I sweat profusely after a shower and sweat a lot after eating. Does any one else have this problem? And is there any research being done on this?

I get sudden cases of sweating too. I will be sitting still and break out in a drenching sweat.

Me too Couchtater. Last winter and summer I would be just sitting doing nothing and break out in a sweat. Enough to wet a tissue pretty good. I did that for over a year. I dont do that so much now, but sure have sweating after a shower and when I eat. It mostly comes from my head and face. So much that it runs down my face and stings my eyes. After I shower, I must sit in front of a fan in a towel for 30 to 45 minutes or untill it passes before I can get dressed.
Anyone else out there that has this strange sweating?

It could be a side effect of a medicine. For example that is a listed side effect of Cymbalta.

I've noticed that I'm much more sensitive to heat in general and far more likely to sweat when I'm too warm.

Yes. But I believe mine is hot flashes..

Mine I think was hormones and hot flashes. Night sweats too. I don't have it anymore. so depending on your age, it may have been something you would go through anyway, regardless of fibromyalgia.

It is a side effect of cymbalta and effexor, plus other medications can make the effect worse.

Oh my, do I get the sweaty symptom. It's so uncomfortable and embarrassing!! It doesn't seem to matter what the temperature is or how much antiperspirant I use. I no longer take cymbalta but still deal with this issue. I'd say its definitely the fibro.

I'm just on plaquenil, gabapentin, tylenol, and occasional tramadol.

I'm thinking it's a fibro thing myself. I can pore sweat with the air conditioner blowing full force on me.

I rarely perspire but I also don't take a lot of medication.  I take more supplements and over the counter meds...not the prescripton drugs usually given for fibro.  It is good to check out what you are taking and their side effects.  A good site for that is Drugs.com.

I know its not the drugs. I cant take Cymbalta or any gabapentin. I do take hydrocodon-acetaminophn. and tramadol once in a while for break through pain. I know its not hot flashes, havent had a period for 7 years. And this sweating is so different than the hot flashes i used to have.
I have been doing some searching on the web. Many sites say a little bit about fibro and sweating. Dr. Teitelbaum says that the sweating is due to "autonomic dysfunction within the hypothalamus in our brains". The hypothalamus regulates sweating, bowl movements, and other automatic body functions. Could also explain why a lot of us have IBS too. I have developed sweating a lot as well, but I do take cymbalta, and that is indeed a side effect. I have always been sensitive to warmer humid temperatures but it has gotten worse since the fibro and cymbalta.

i sweat loads and did before my fibro diagnosis (so way before I was on medication)..I think mine is anxiety as it seems to get worse in anxious moments..it can sometimes have foul smell also
Mine is also like hot flashes...never really got to the bottom of it

I often get bouts of sweeting. It is bad enough that my hair it's wet. It can be embarrassing to be with a group of people who are comfortable and i look like I've been on the treadmill. As a 38 year old man, I'm pretty sure it's not hormone related or hot flashes. Although i do joke with my wife that I'm going through menopause!

Showering at the coldest bearable temperature has been helpful in reducing post-shower sweats over the last few years.

My hands and feet always sweat a lot *before* fibro/CFS came along. (Gross)

But after fibro/CFS, I noticed that only my right underarm sweats a lot, and not my left much at all. What on earth? Weird.

I don't know if its CFS/FM related, but ever since I've had FM/CFS, it has just felt as if my body is majorly imbalanced:

My feet and hands are cold. I don't regulate body temp the same, it seems. My period is all messed up. I wouldn't be surprised if it was all related.

I don't take meds so it can't be that.

Oh well.
