So I had an appointment today with the rheumy. This was a new doc for me, and I was a bit apprehensive about seeing him to begin with.

1~ It was NOT the rheumy I asked to be sent to when my primary said I need to go to one.
2~ In reading his patient reviews, 5 out of 6 said he did not deal with fibromyalgia shocked (This is what I was sent for)
3~ SO I called his secretary, and told her my concerns..that I was being sent there for fibro, and yet he had NO good reviews on the internet. I realize that you have to take that with a grain of salt, that not everyone would be happy with the outcome of a doctors appointment. So, I decided to keep it, based on his secretaries assurances.
4~ I go to appt., he appears very attentive, does his physical exam, says I have osteoarthritis.. and he would like to do blood work and x rays to rule out other stuff.. ok, I agree that things obviously need to be done to rule out stuff..ok.. no problem. We get to the end of the appointment, and he goes, "Well, I will tell you this, I DO NOT deal with fibromyalgia, I don't believe it exists, but I will test you for other things, and if anything comes up, I will treat you for that."

SOOOOO NOT HAPPY... then to top that off, when leaving his office complex, I step onto (what I think) is a sidewalk, only to find there is no sidewalk on the other side of the curb, it is a HOLE!!! I ended up throwing out my back smhair mad cry
Really running the gambit of emotions today..and just want to cry!

Well, you know who NOT to go to next time. I don't know how a doctor can arbitrarily say they don't believe in an illness even though it's already been proven to be an illness and recognized by the American College of Rheumatology, the American Medical Association, the National Institutes of Health, and the World Health Organization just to name a few. It's like he is saying he doesn't believe in arthritis.

I'm sorry you had to deal with that. The Internet reviews have been pretty accurate for me. If the majority say he didn't believe in fibro, then I would believe that over the person who worked for him. I hope you find a GOOD rheumy. Be sure to let your PCP know about this so he doesn't send more fibromites to this guy to line his pockets.

I would be tempted to try to get my money back, since you told his secretary about your concerns, and she assured you he did treat Fibro (did you already have your blood drawn?)   

I hope now at least you can be sent to the one you wanted to see in the first place?

That stinks!
I went to a neurologist for some answers I believed was related to my fibro. The nurse said, "we don't deal with fibro here".
I mentioned that they found a connection with fibro and nervous system and she looked at me like I was an idiot. So I shut up and silently crossed them off my list.

I hope your back feels better soon.

I'm so sorry for your bad experience. Wish that doc could walk a day in a fibromite's shoes...that might make him a believer.

Two different people may have totally different experiences and views views about a doctor. I love my rheumy, our relationship is built on mutual respect. He always takes time to answer questions and share educational materials with me. He goes the extra mile and referred me to all of my other specialists. A friend of mine went to this same rheumy and disliked him.

I'm hoping you find a doctor that cares and has time time to treat you.

After reading your post mrs bugsy I began to wonder what is wrong with our doctors? So many of us are having so much trouble from them including myself. I probably wouldn't even go see one if it wasn't for paper work for my long term insurance. I guess you can take this as a learning lesson. I wouldn't go back. If you had X-rays or labs done I would get a copy for your next Dr. I wouldn't do anymore with that Dr. So sorry your having to go through this.

Yeah, I am going to call another doctor tomorrow, I am also going to call our insurance company. This is a crock!!! How can his secretary tell me, "He absolutely deals with fibro, I know a lot of people who come here for that." And then he says at the end No, he doesn't???? That doesn't sound right to me.
It's not like I asked her for a specific plan he would do for me...good grief..
Just so frustrating...so now I have to wonder how long will it take me to get into the new guys office..since this one took 3 months! Really don't think I can wait that long :(

Gosh this is just terrible to be treated this way. I am so happy that my doctor was totally on board with my fibro and tried every type of medication she could think of to help me. Not once did she think it was all in my head or think it was a made up disease etc. Unfortunately I am so sensitive to meds that I had extreme side effects with everything that we tried so all I can do is take the medication for my back problem and get a little relief from those.

I would definitely search for a different doctor that is supportive and wants to help you instead of making you feel worse. We know there's something wrong with us and that we hurt all over and just want help and they are supposed to be compassionate and professional. It's a shame though that it's not the normal way of things these days. Good luck to you.

Well that sounds like a waste of time and money. I wouldn't be seeing him again. Good luck in finding a good doctor. They are out there, few and far between at times.
